I tried beating entropy, but lost. It beat the shit out of me. Now whenever I see entropy, I just turn around, walk the other way and casually pretend I didn't see it.

Re: Unpopular opinions thread
You wouldn't believe how many women thrust themselves upon me after seeing my masterful understanding of internet semantics. Probably about as many women that thrust themselves upon me when I discuss the details of keyboard switches. I do it in a suave Bond-style double entendre. She breathlessly a...

That's free US shipping. It's $53.85 shipping to Canada. I'd have to make an offer of -$14.85 just to get that for $39. (...somehow I don't think the seller would accept)

Same here - except for the nickel allergy. I got my first LCD watch in 1979 (...as was the style at the time). The light was only bright enough to show the last digit. Still, it was a major improvement over my previous watch - a cheap mechanical Timex piece of crap. It kept stopping, so I sent it ba...

This collection is incomplete! Where's the Micro Switch SW? Where's the ITW magnetic valve? Where's the Teletype Model 40? Where are the reed switches?
Otherwise, the collection is OK... I guess.

Yes, exactly. Look at this guy. It's hard to believe that this is a wild animal. I've got an unpopular opinion... wash bears are awesome! (although they're called "raccoons" where I am, I prefer to use the European term for them because they're like little bears.. that wash) Americans and many Canadians consider these guys to be filthy pests, like large rats that cause problems....

I was going to put in an offer. I was going to say:

Re: 1979 Lear Siegler ADM-2 keyboard (Vintage Vintage Key Tronic Foam & Foil)
Nice. I've never seen an ADM-2 before - mostly just ADM-3, ADM-5 and ADM 42. I regret not getting a blue ADM-3 for $40 when I picked up a load of computers, but I ran out of space in my car. (damn it!) I too like light weighted foam & foil, but noticed that when I replaced the disintegrated foam pad...

The IBM 4979 is just as cute and is beam spring. IBM terminals.jpg I've never actually seen any photos of it other than in IBM ads, so there's no chance of finding one of those either. You feel embarrassed spending $50 including shipping on a vintage keyboard? Shit. It costs over $50 just to ship a keyboard to Canada - and that's if it's free . I've even paid $85 to ship a keyboard. That doesn't even cover customs. Even within Canada, it costs around $35 just for shipping. I also ...

Yes, notice how I was the one in that thread who identified that keyboard as an 8170.hellothere wrote: ↑12 Dec 2020, 20:38Did so.
Tried to find the other 8170 that I saw with F&F. I couldn't find it ... but I found this Key Tronic that looks virtually identical to the 8170. With foam & foil, of course.

That's a pretty one. However, I've realized that most of the pretty ones are foam and foil. Took a couple min for me to find this keyboard and yup. It's foam and foil. No it's not. This Cortron keyboard was part of a CPT 8000 series word processor from the end of 1979. CPT-case-black.jpg It is more than 2 ft. long. The case is steel, so the whole weighs 9.5 lbs. This keyboard might look familiar. I have one very similar that I got from Ascaii a number of years back (he still curses that he sold it too me not realizing it used Magnetic Pulse/Valve switches :P). The other keyboard was likely OEM'd for Univac, this one, I'm not quite sure. https://farm6.stati...
