Re: suggestions for /dev/tty2 ?
Woohoo! I ordered the beige base, Colemak & Co., Lost + Found, and Unicorn Barf. My CTRL High Profile is going to be complete with R5 goodness come October or thereabouts. Now, to order another or not to order? I'll sleep on it. Thanks for running this, Matt3o. I hope the constant availability of th...

Since nobody commented on the kit name change from Unicorn RGB+YO to Unicorn Barf, I'll just say well played, sir.

Re: suggestions for /dev/tty2 ?
unfortunately red-on-teal doesn't work, so I'll probably have to revert to 1-bit colors. Does red on beige work? Or maybe you have to do the legend printing the same for both colors of modifier? of course there's a special /dev/tty2 key :D Woohoo! :D I'm really looking forward to this one. Off topi...

Re: suggestions for /dev/tty2 ?
I'm late to this one as usual, but I wanted to say thanks, Matt3o, for running /dev/tty with R5 again. I got triumph mods last time. I've been using them daily at work every day since, and wanted another set with beige for home. I have been resisting the urge to get the stripped down reruns of it th...

Re: (Model MF) Remodeling the Model M (aka.. the Mara)
Both hands above the desk, Techno Trousers. ;) Ha ha! I deserve that, but aren't we all here because we like touching stuff? So I snagged a set of flippers and springs from Ellipse's project on eBay. Probably rejects, but I got them for $0.50, so... If I can find a set of equally cheap barrels, I'l...

Re: (Model MF) Remodeling the Model M (aka.. the Mara)
What are you guys most looking forward to doing when you get your Mara? I want to assemble my own, so I imagine unboxing them from the custom shipping/storage boxes, and laying out all the individual parts. Then putting together the first SSK: turning the satisfying torx screws, applying the sticker...

Re: (Model MF) Remodeling the Model M (aka.. the Mara)
To recap: 1. The new barrel and flipper combo will work together in any F, new or original. 2. The new flipper will work in a new or original barrel. 3. An original flipper will NOT work in a new barrel. Moral of the story: to repair or replace the switch parts in an original F, you MUST buy at leas...

Re: (Model MF) Remodeling the Model M (aka.. the Mara)
Upside with everything we are talking about, we could take a legacy barrel/flipper and machine them down to try it. Duh, of course! That would be a simple way to make a proof of concept. I like the idea of having a few to make the rounds. I have an Orihalcon model F keychain, so I could send that a...

Re: (Model MF) Remodeling the Model M (aka.. the Mara)
I've really missed this interchange of ideas. Again, a heartfelt welcome back LL. I really like the idea of a modernized version of the F switch mechanism that can work in a curved or flat orientation. The thing I'm wondering, though, is if shortening the pivot plate might change the amount of sprin...

9/9/19 sounds like a great day to do a big run of cold rolled steel. Really looking forward to this, lot_lizard! End game keyboards are near. If there's any way I can help, I'm happy to mix in.

Those are really nice. I'm not in Europe, but I probably would have tried to trade anyway if they were in the standard RU Cyrillic layout. Good luck with the trade!

Re: (Model MF) Remodeling the Model M (aka.. the Mara)
For those without cases, maybe the Model MF curved assembly could be mounted to a metal "frame" and left exposed? It would look pretty badass as a naked keyboard.

Re: (Model MF) Remodeling the Model M (aka.. the Mara)
OMG. Welcome back, Lot Lizard! Looks like I was only off by 365 days and 2019 is going to be the MF'n year! I expect demand to be perhaps slightly higher than it was, given the prices F-122s have been commanding, though as always the limiting factor is availability of the "switches." I'm glad I kept...

Re: wcass' Compact SSK: a review, reverse engineer, teardown, geek-out.
I'd be fine with clamping a flat PCB between F-122 plates and heating it with a hot air gun or hair dryer until it takes on the curve. IIRC, that's what I$ did for the original FSSK.
The problem with strips are the interconnects between them. Lots of potential points of failure there.

Re: wcass' Compact SSK: a review, reverse engineer, teardown, geek-out.
Flippers in a regular model F are bouncing off the PCB and underside of the barrel, so I don't think there's any difference here. If anything the sound should be louder and crisper without foam surrounding the barrels and deadening the sound.

Now you're talking: a full TKL model F SSK. {Drool}XMIT wrote:...I'm looking at this and thinking about how a five axis mill would be able to countersink Model F parts into a curved machined surface. Very nice work.

This is a truly wonderful project. I was fortunate to take a look at and tear down his earlier (non-functional) prototype, and this final product is truly light years beyond that one. I'm so impressed by all the little touches, like the countersunk barrels.
Great job, wcass!

Crazy that everything was just abandoned like that. Computer equipment in those days was incredibly expensive. Why didn't they sell it? Makes me think the building owner just locked the company out and it got stuck in some kind of stalemate.

Almost always, the two tone F keys like these means it a PC model. F keys on the terminal models are all gray.
However, zooming in I can see that the markings on the keys are for terminal use, so you'd most likely need a Soarer's converter to use them with a PC.
