I think it could work, I just feel like the topre-mx sliders are the better solution, as you can use any cherry MX set, rather than a select few that has the hybrid stem type.

Very much yes, I would be very happy with this set.

Could there be any other middle ground material that could lower the cost? If we just iron down landing pads and get a pretty good result, then surely we could find a cheaper material that could act similar at a lower price?

If I can get my hands on a set; if there are going to be any more, I'll do a little review comparing the two methods.

I just tried it on my HHKB, and it a oddly nice and springy come back and a bit more hefty in terms of the feel...This is with 55g domes in my HHKB, just to note.
