Re: [WIP] OneHand - 20% Keyboard
Haha I understand ;) So TwoHand can also be used as a OneHand if you split it? Yep! On power up it looks for the other hand running as an I2C device, and it always scans both sides of the matrix periodically. Pressing a key on the second half would switch the mapping mode. You can even use two OneH...

Re: [WIP] OneHand - 20% Keyboard
Awesome news! :D Well I have 3 keyboards now, two MX blues and one MX red, I could try MX brown ;) So what do you recommend? OneHand or TwoHand? The led thingy sounds cool! The OneHand is a definite conversation starter, the TwoHand is basically a split 40% keyboard, and is much easier to learn. Th...

Cool! So is there any chance that you will build a complete working one(I can't do it myself :( )of course I will pay extra for that :) I2C EEPROM footprint sounds promising! Re: Scottish Independence
As a English man who has spent the last 16 years living in the USA (I married my American wife in Scotland - and love the country and people), my take would be to accept whatever the people vote for and make the best of it either way. Being an engineer I tend to go with the logical, less risky choic...

Indeed it would! Does the TwoHand configuration use the LEDs much, Peter? And is a OneHand (v 2.0) smart enough to know when it is in fact a TwoHand, so can adapt its layout at power on? It depends if the TwoHand is two inter-connected OneHand units, with their associated CPUs communicating over I2...

Re: [WIP] OneHand - 20% Keyboard
Quick, and maybe silly, question: will it be possible to get the PCBs with the smd components already soldered? I'm really not comfortable with soldering things that small :/ I'll see what I can do. I will borrow the rework station from work and see how quickly I can solder the components. I should...

Here's the 'finished' PCB! ;0) http://www.creativephotoeffects.com/pje/V2TopC.png http://www.creativephotoeffects.com/pje/V2BtmC.png It uses a 10-Way IDC connection to link the two PCBs when used in a TwoHand arrangement. Looks great! Can't wait to hear more and updates on releases of the PCB :) After stating that I had run out of things to change... I'm currently 75% of the way through changing from a SIL to an IDC connection for the cable linking the two units. This allows an off-the-shelf 10-way ribbon cable to b...

Cunning optional 2u thumb switches now I see. You good for stabs? I have PCB mount stabilizers, but not plate mount... How is this done in kicad? I'm not sure in kicad... I use a different package. In Easy-PC you add a copper pour shape and associate it to a net such as GND then invoke a fill of the shape. You need to redo the fill if you make changes so I fill it at the end, making a few edits to get as complete a...

Re: HyperMicro Development
Do you have sufficient spare pins? You would connect all the Gnd connections together, and then back to the Gnd pin on the Teensy. I usually fill the spare space on at least one layer with Gnd, which makes a nice connection point for the LEDs.

Re: HyperMicro Development
LEDs operate via current flowing (typically up to 20mA, although low current LEDs are recommended) through them, and will drop the voltage by around 2V. You therefore need to have a series resistor to control the current flow. Driving the LED can be via switching the supply voltage (Vcc), or the 0V ...

Re: Libre and Open Implementation Keyboard?
Interesting concept. I looked at combining Solid-Run's CuBox-i unit between the two halves of my TwoHand unit. This would produce a very small computer in keyboard.
I'm not sure if the CuBox-i is open source hardware.

Re: HyperMicro Development
With the current price rise of the eBay ProMicro modules, I don't see any reason not to use a Teensy. You're already saving money on the lower switch count. Personally, I'd ditch the LEDs for this version and look at rotating the overlapping switches 180deg to see if it makes the holes easier to pro...

@scottc: Are there any differences in specs corresponding to the color of the board? Your illustration shows a red board, whereas the ones I've seen are blue. Hi kile,
Excellent work! Your keyboard is coming along very quickly. How's the wireless data transmission working out? Any data on battery life yet?
I'm still swamped at work, so I've had to pause the V2 work for a week or so. Hopefully I can get back to it this weekend.
Keep up the good work.

We're going surface mount with these PCBs as they advance. That has significant upsides like you mentioned, and Kile's making great use of this potential, too. The only problem is that surface mount soldering is not for the faint hearted. We're moving into pre-assembled kit territory. Which is fine...
