Re: IBM model F XT not working suddenly
Thank you, orihalcon! It's just ingenius! I've never ever dreamed of such a simple solution ;) I'll try my plan first just because it's much cheaper (and I've already ordered the programmed controller). But if it doesn't work, I'll definitely follow your recommendation! I've got just one question. W...

Re: IBM model F XT not working suddenly
Thank you very much for suggestions! I have already found a guy who dumped the ROM seven years ago. He just sent me the binary. It turns out that there is absolutely no difference between two ;) Also, I've found a store in Moscow which does not just sale chips, but also have a service of programming...

Re: IBM model F XT not working suddenly
It turned out that Intel 8048 is a factory flashed chip. Good news: there is Intel 8748, the same chip, but rewritable. Also, as far as I've found, there is no write protection exists in this chip family. So, the plan is: To desolder and check the capacitors. To find the firmware of 8048 dumped by s...

Re: IBM model F XT not working suddenly
Hey ;) No intermittent typing whatsoever. It just died completely. What do you mean by disassembling? To part the plate from PCB, put off keycaps and pull all flippers out? How come it could be of any help? I already put off the back lid, unplugged the internal cable connector, and plugged it back i...

Re: IBM model F XT not working suddenly
Thank you very much.
So, the biggest chip is Intel 8048 controller. Is it flashable? Or if it's a culprit, and I change it, will it work right away?

Re: IBM model F XT not working suddenly
Hello guys, I've got the same issue. All of a sudden, my F XT refused to work. (Soarer's converter on a Pro Micro clone.) Right before the failure it started to type itself some garbage, I've plugged the USB off, and then on again. And enjoyed the silence. I've flashed another Pro Micro and tried it...

Thank you very much for the tutorial! I've managed to get my IBM model F XT working. And it does like a charm ;) I've done it under Windows 7 x64. So, I'd like to tell about one issue I've faced with. Windows didn't recognize the device, of course, then I installed drivers manually, as SparkFun reco...

Hello friends, I'm working on a project to PCize the keyboard of my childhood — the old Soviet Izot Magnetic Reed Switch terminal monster. The one I was luckily found is not exactly the same, but the switches are the good old ones though. It was always been my dream, and several years ago I've joine...

OK, I'm going to use the TMK firmware, and will take further investigation about the potential level need to drive LEDs. But, looking at the Ergodox, which utilizes the TMK code too, the LEDs' cathodes have to be connected to the ground, and anodes — to the corresponding Teensy pins (through resisto...

Asking for the Teensy PCB wiring help
Hello friends, I'm trying to create the DIY-keyboard PCB. I've decided to drive my keyboard by Teensy 2.0++. Summary it will be 26 lines: 19 for the matrix (10 rows, 9 columns) and 7 for LEDs. So, the question is: what to do with the power pins of the Teensy ("+5v", "GND")? I've took a look at a ple...

That Soviet keyboard has been discussed a few times and the general consensus is that they are Fujitsu Reed switches. Oh I did not know that. But we don't really know about the switches right? I forgot that I actually happened upon the manufacturer awhile back. It's a Pravetz. It was reviewed here....

Murium, Findecanor, thank you for the useful info about sides! AFAIK, all of Cherry's own keyboards with PCB-mounted MX-switches are single-sided but most of them are actually manufactured double-sided with the top-facing side as a single ESD/ground plane connected to the wire's shield. If there was...

teensy 2++ or teensy 3.x ? Also: remember to skip the Teensy's built in LED pin. It's no good as an input, without hacking the hardware. As a general rule, the matrix with the least number of (rows+columns) would be as square as possible. The smallest square that would fit 105 switches is 10×11 (11...
