Re: Diagnosing a dead switch

Thanks. No multimeter, unfortunately - but presumably you could make a ghetto one with a battery and a small lightbulb? Also, re: bridging the pins, can I do that while the switch is still in? I thought Cherry MX switches sent the signal by breaking the connection rather than making it - or am I ma...

Re: Diagnosing a dead switch

So, I've been working on a THKB prototype board and after soldering it all together, everything works...except for the "Z" and "LGUI" (Win?) key. Now, I want to diagnose if this is a problem with the switches involved or the diodes or solder joints or something else? How would I go about testing th...

I was doing some googling for IBM stuff and found an old thread for this pedal. I don't think these are too widespread and I got the impression they were fairly rare. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IBM-Dictation-Dictator-Transcription-Datahand-Foot-Control-Pedal-/281713559620?hash=item41976fc844:g:tSYAAO...

Ellipse's next project could be making capacitive guts for the IBM SSK. Man, I would buy that in a second! That one's already underway, thanks to Idollar. I have a 1987-vintage SSK just waiting for the capacitive plates. http://deskthority.net/viewtopic.php?t=10744 Wow I completely forgot about thi...

The main thing with DT is we're a small community, where it's hard to be anonymous and act like a dick with impunity. There's something about this place that attracts people like me and Kbdfr (and most the regulars, really) who aren't afraid to offer sharp criticism. Maybe it's because we're mostly...

Now, I do like me a bit of Topre, but I've got to say the Kishsaver is a magical board. It's as big as my Re...

Just out of interest, is it obvious which way round the diodes go? I'm a bit of an electronics noob, and I don't want to have to desolder and resolder all of them if I get it wrong! ne0phyte did a good job with this. There is a mark for where you need the diodes to go and they have the line on them...

Looks good, I think the closer spacing feels more IBM-ish. For box graphics I think either option would be good (vector or XT/AT line art style), and since we are not really copying the original style of the boxes for the 50, 62, or 77, which are a little bit bland ( http://deskthority.net/photos-f...

UK people, check out the Fablab website - it seems like a similar deal, but whether or not you need a membership varies per individual shop. Speaking from my experience of the one in Exeter, you can do pretty much anything for free, but you need to supply any materials they don't have it things lik...

The fourth looks the best to me, and I am guessing you used the "men in blue" font to generate that one? I had looked at that font a while ago when box discussions were going on, and it matches the old IBM graphics very well, the only place that it needs some work is on the inter character spacing/...

I had a go at some packaging design a while ago. I was just thinking of the front of the box and solid colour for the rest or some with a white line. The box of the SSK was the main inspiration. But IBM had some very nice packaging even something like typewriter ribbons look really nice. http://i.im...

They really should have sent out some before-market prototypes for testing and reviews, especially given the fact that the switch housings are machined into the top case. It will be of interest to find out how the aluminum switch housings affect the sound and feel of the HHKB and how the height of ...

As much as I love my HHKB, and quite a few things with that old port, Mini USB is not the answer. Go micro, or Type-C if you really want some fun. This looks awesome. But I don't think I can help too much with the placement of the usb connector. I don't know if you will gain a lot of functionality with two connectors but it would certainly make it a even more unique.

We still need the custom-made styrofoam shipping packaging, the top and bottom metal case, the double-walled box, flippers, barrels, inner foam, and springs at this point. The bottleneck will be the mold design for the barrels and flippers, which is still ongoing. OK, so still a lot to go. But ever...

Is the tray they're mounted on from the prototype, or is it the one from your F77? A note - the bottom inner assembly pictured with the new PCBs is from an original F77 - the prototypes have not yet gone into production. Thanks!
