Re: "Restoring" and hacking a Pinnacle Deko!
Wow I'm really glad to have gotten these into your hands, you've done more in a few days than I was ever able to do in the few years I owned it. Nice work!

Re: Linear switch for autoimmune arthritis: light or heavy?
Just as a small note, getting one of the 5576 is pretty unobtainable at this point, the ones I've seen recently are going for $300+ and that's before considering the shipping costs.

If you type rather lightly anyways then I'd suggest Gateron Clears with o-rings or Matias Linears. I personally think Matias Linears aren't very good with dampers, but that might be just what you need to provide additional cushion to your fingers.

Theoretically you could but it would be criminal to use them on anything else, these are hall effect switches after all.

Re: Post the ugliest keyboards you've seen!
Well you also can't really tell from the photos but the keys are smaller than 1U, they are probably something like 0.85U which really throws me off as a touch typist. Plus I use the edges of the keys to figure out where I am in terms of board so having rounded keys like that is even worse.

Re: Separating keyboard from PC
A year or two ago I bought an old IBM InfoWindow II that came with both the CRT and keyboard, I think shipping was around $50 if I'm remembering that right. The CRTs are (obviously) quite heavy, much more so than the keyboards. You can always offer it for free and just have the recipient pay shippin...

I saw that last night - I'd snap it up in a heartbeat if I were still serious about collecting, but I'm trying to downsize as it is already.

Re: Separating keyboard from PC
Here most people will give you the advice that it's okay as long as the orphaned system goes to a good home, which is also the mindset that I use (generally). On the other hand, I'm a member of a few vintage computing servers and they strongly disapprove of us doing so, and I've taken heat from them...

Re: IBM Model M - Any tips on gluing a chipped case?
I've never glued a keyboard case but I've done some minor work with plastic and found epoxy works quite well and will likely hold better than glue would.

Blaise's free recycling thread
Hi all, currently have in my possession a number of boards which are more damaged than I'm willing to try to fix. Most of these will probably still work if you put in the effort. They are all in varying states of brokenness. I'm giving them all away for free , just pay the shipping on it (should be ...

Re: Where do you guys find your vintage keyboards?
Yeah I think a lot of us have ended up in that same position at some point, ending up with a massive collection and not knowing what to do with it all. I used to spend hours just browsing eBay and finding stuff listed incorrectly.

Re: Post the ugliest keyboards you've seen!
I actually got sent a sample of one of those when they first started producing them and they were okay for what they are but the key shape made it really difficult to type on. On the plus side it was backlit and bluetooth which is pretty nice. Mine was just white keys with a teal case though, so muc...

Re: Where do you guys find your vintage keyboards?
I've found a good chunk of my stuff on eBay, but this was back before the community was as large as it is now. I'd say a good 25% of my collection came from Japan since I have the ability to access Yahoo! Auctions. The best deals I've gotten have come from thrift stores or small "mom and pop" type s...

I've hesitated to even comment on this thread, but honestly the crusade against Redmaus is nothing short of juvenile. I don't know the facts so I can't pass judgement on any of the parties involved, however the fact that new accounts here have been created to purposefully spam our forums is unaccept...

On the same token having region based roles might be good too, so that people know approximate locations (e.g. NA, EU, AS, AU, SA, etc.)

Re: Variable weighting, potentially analog switch interest check
For analog switches magnets often work the best in my experience, they have a pretty linear force curve until you bottom out the switch at which point the force curve increases dramatically. You don't need electromagnets at all, there are a huge number of magnetic switches that already exist, albeit...

Always been jealous of your Alps boards E3E, they've just always been too expensive to justify for me. Currently using this at work, Cooler Master QuickFire Rapid with MX Greens. Blue Vortex case and Korean PBT caps with Jelly Key artisan.

Need something proxied from Sweden (EU)
Hey everyone, a friend of mine wants to order something from Sweden, but after paying they refunded saying they couldn't ship to the US. Can someone that lives in the EU (preferably Sweden) that can proxy this for me? I'd of course pay for your time and efforts. Thanks!

Re: Thickness of foam for Model F XT
At these sizes I'd just go with the 2.3mm foam, you're talking a difference of only 300μm from the 2.0mm you've been recommended. For reference, a strand of hair is usually around 100-150μm wide.
