Re: Questioning the lubing of switches

I have a series of videos planned for the future about restoring Alps switches, and in one of them I'm going to do a side-by-side comparison of different lubricants (which I'm in the process of acquiring atm). I also want to use that opportunity to talk about how lubrication works and what the diff...

Re: Tell me about your experience with dome boards

I have a Compaq board with NMB dome with slider and the keyfeel is quite solid imo with decent tactility and weighting. The board itself is quite hefty and sturdy for a rubber dome board. I use it at work from time to time. As a daily driver I use a 88U with 45g switches and it is the perfect switc...

Re: BOX switches

I wish people would just stop fucking about with the notches to generate tactility. As I noted in my review of the BOX Royals, they feel good, it's just crazy that they had to resort to a bump THIS big in order to make a notch switch actually feel tactile. And now, as a side effect, they can't keep ...

Re: Why can't modern Mechanical keyboard build like Northgate Omnikey?

Cost, back in the 80s keyboards were expensive so could afford to be made of higher quality so they would last. Yes, and no. In 1992, an OmniKey 101 cost $89 which is $162 today. That's not cheap, but most manufacturers field a keyboard that costs around that much, or more even. I think it's mainly...

Re: Kailh Switch Series, which one is your favorite?

That's Stockholm Syndrome at it's best. Innovation isn't an excuse for pathetic QC and selling products as "MX compatible" when they are really not is CLEARLY Kailhs fault. It's just shows how little they care about specifications, testing, quality control and actual compatibility. The larger stems...

Re: Typing Demo XL - SMK 2nd gen "Monterey" Alps-mount clicky switch (Monterey K110)

Yeah, those SMK second generation switches really are nice! For me they almost feel somewhere between clicky Alps SKCM, and clickbar Kailh BOX switches. I almost got one of these Montereys from a user here about a month or so ago for a good price. Ultimately decided against it because I didn't have...

Re: Gaming Keyboard - Looking for Advice

I agree that NKRO or 6KRO is likely better in order to err on the side of safety, but I think the dangers of 2KRO in games have been highly overstated. How about a diagonal move up (W) rigth (D) and jump (Space) at the same time. There you have 3 non-modifier keys pressed at once. 2KRO is a problem...

Re: Bull trio : KBU-1971, KBU-7144 and KBU-2105

Nice find! There are too much arrow keys on KBU 7144. Who can explain some keys at numpad? Actually it's bizarre how many arrow keys there are on the WHOLE board xD . I can see TWO backtabs, I suppose the one on the middle of the "nav" is the home key, and the left arrow on the row above that is ba...

Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread

It looks to me like it has a slightly curved backplane, and a curved backplane means membrane. However, a membrane does not always mean rubber dome. I know of only two non-rubber dome membrane switches that could have a curved backplane though: Model M buckling spring and Mitsumi's "hybrid switch" ...

I type faster on some boards than on others. It really varies. Orange Alps in particular make me type very quickly.

Re: Typing Demo XL - Matias Quiet Click (Matias Mini Quiet Pro)

From what I understood they changed a few subtle things a while ago, including a fix for the chattering issues the V80 I reviewed recently showed. That said, at heart they're basically the same switches. IMO great buys for the money are linearised black Alps or clicky (pine) white ones. Both should...

Yes, Focus made a very limited amount of black keyboards. To my knowledge, only first-generation ones. I'll be showing multiple in videos that are coming down the line :D . All of them use white Alps (although I know of ones that use clones, too). Nice, thanks for sharing! Are the caps double shots...
