Re: AEK keycaps suck.

Alps caps are prone to breakage during shipping, this is by no means exclusive to these PBT ones.

That said, doubleshot ABS is still better than dyesub PBT, of course 8) .

Compaq Portable II review

Today we've got a whole computer system; a Compaq Portable II! Kudos to the people who managed to guess the make and model on the basis of the teaser trailer :) . The video is rather long as it also contains a long section of me playing some old games on it. Hope you enjoy the video! :)

Re: Would it be possible for someone to recreate the SKCM blue alps switch?

I don't see how RGB helps gamers at all. The people who like RGB only do it because it was marketed as a high-end feature that "gaming" brands put on their more upmarket boards. Some well-done marketing can convince people to buy a board with quality switches rather than dime-a-dozen LEDs. MX stems ...

Re: Tried ALPS for the first time

My first one was a Chicony KB-5161 with white Alps. I got it for free from the guys who dispose of tech stuff from the uni, back in the UK. It had been sitting in a cupboard for years, and it still had the dust cover on it, so it was very clean, but some keys didn't click properly, because something...

Re: Would it be possible for someone to recreate the SKCM blue alps switch?

And everyone said the old moulds and toolings for complicated Alps were lost. But since when and under whose hands were they lost. Could they be under someone's possession but they're not into make switches or that they don't like the design for some reason? And how about the research notes or meet...

Re: Would it be possible for someone to recreate the SKCM blue alps switch?

Matias needs to revert that stupid polycarb housing which is good for absolutely nothing (ever recall an RGB Matias board?) [...] As I recall, Matias had been the first with clear housings for SMD LED, with Cherry and the others copying Matias. They did it for the locking keys. Previously, they had...

Re: Would it be possible for someone to recreate the SKCM blue alps switch?

no, I want him to do it. It took Ellipse years and tens of thousands of dollars to do "just" a Model F, which is a much more easiliy recreatable switch design. I can't imagine how much time and money it'd cost to field the research and tooling to recreate SKCMAG. That said, I'd happily help anyone ...

Re: Would it be possible for someone to recreate the SKCM blue alps switch?

Of course it's possible to recreate them, although it will likely take a fair bit of research, trail and error. However, Matias will never remake SKCM Blue (for the exact same reason Unicomp will not recreate the Model F).

Re: Key Tronic Corp. Early '70s Keyboard

It wouldn't bug me much if they weren't the rare magnetic reed variant. I love the old foam and foil myself, but it ain't the end of the world if someone used one of those for some silly project like that instead. Looks like a quite neat little board too D: . I guess it's easier to get working over...

Very nice haul, some really cool boards there! :D Btw, I'm pretty sure that AT&T isn't magsep, that model is Olivetti dome with slider AFAIK ;) . Well, I need to check, since it's definitely has an audible and tactile click. Perhaps, Olivetti Snap Action? https://deskthority.net/wiki/Olivetti_snap_...

Typing Demo XL - Key Tronic vintage foam and foil (Mycro-Tek MC-12000-5)

As requested, a TDXL of my Mycro-Tek; one of the bigger boards I own. With its all-metal case and chassis, and enormous size, it produces quite the sound – these older Key Tronic keyboards tend to get very clacky in large keyboards like this. Hope you enjoy the video! :)

Re: Typing Demo XL - Razer Mecha-membrane (Razer Ornata)

I'm afraid the only cure for any Razer Labelled Keyboard today, is to take it out on your steel balustrade and bash the keyboard continuously until it breaks down into smaller pieces and drops everywhere below, onto your driveway. So that later with utter contempt, you could drive over the remainin...

Typing Demo XL - Razer Mecha-membrane (Razer Ornata)

As requested, a TDXL of my Razer Ornata with mecha-membrane switches. I had forgotten what a pathetic piece of rubber crap this thing is xD . Comments on the sound appear to be rather polarised though! Hope you enjoy the video :) .

Apparently, American beer is far worse than Canadian beer (at least that's what every Canadian says). Thankfully, I've never tried American beer. Re: Unpopular opinions thread

Here's an unpopular opinion: I hate beer! I don't know how people can drink that crap. It tastes like carbonated puke, filtered through a dirty sock. (....don't ask me how I know what that tastes like) The annoying thing is that "having a beer" is a social thing - just like "going for coffee", anot...

Re: Packard Bell Keyboard Switches

This is an AT-type NMB Hi-Tek keyboard with Series 725 switches, also known as Space Invaders. Most likely the old one-eyed, white, linear ones. This one is a Packard Bell rebrand.

I reviewed one of the non-rebrands:

Epson Q703A keyboard review (Fujitsu leaf spring 2nd generation)

Today we look at a rare bird; a SILENCED keyboard from 1983! It uses Fujitsu's fairly uncommon second generation of leaf spring switches, about which there is relatively little material out there. It's a very interesting board regardless :) . This episode, by popular request, also includes more exte...

Re: House mites (Glycyphagus domesticus) - Anyone else had them?

When I was a kid I lived in a street where at some point there was an infestation of pharaoh ants. They're very tiny and get absolutely EVERYWHERE, even in things with closed lids, like jam jars. There wasn't a meal we ate that didn't have ants in it, they even got into your drinks. The council had...
