Re: [WTB] Cheap Blue alps board

Rare find? If the board is indeed blue Alps in a G80-3000, then I'd gather it's more likely a custom build (like my SKCL Brown build in an NCR G81-3077 case) or on an off-chance, some weird clone. :P

I work at Unicomp, and am very careful about what I talk about online so I don't get fired :D

You can actually see my elbow in that pic. Sneak level 100.
Would they fire you for revealing that there is a winkeyless version of the new SSK with blockers? ;)

Interesting Greek Wang 725-3770 on eBay a while back. Anyone get it?

Out of an interest in exotic Alps caps, I really have to ask if anyone who peruses Deskthority, whether lurking or active, has picked up this sweet Wang 724 with Greek sublegends shown here: https://i.imgur.com/fPdIYka.jpg I've noticed a few Wang 724 boards with other interesting regional sublegends...

Re: Odd date label on a Focus 727/747

The date label here is using the Taiwanese date system, which why it seems so strange. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_ ... a_calendar

It would appear that this is from 1987 going by the table on the wiki page. :) That fits far better.

Re: S.O.S. Beamspring Key Help

Hi all, today I ask for a big favor. A little while ago I purchased my first beamspring. Unfortunately during shipping one of the 3U keys was smashed at the base of the key and at the stabilizer wire. The white plastic that broke off crumbled apart into multiple crumb sized pieces so I cannot glue ...

Re: Alps Appreciation

Pretty cool SKCM Blue keyboard in a compact F77-like asian layout with an integrated trackball(similar to the Rabbit 286 with blue alps minus the trackball). Despite it's dirt and mucked up case and keycaps, the internals are surprisingly clean and it feels nice(not great) and consistent enough to ...

Absolutely, I feel that the 2014 has the nicest sound off the bat of all the DC-series models. The 2214 is about on par with the 3014. I didn't notice a strong difference.

Re: ALPS CP10SJ550A Kanji Keyboard

Calling the side keys spherical is definitely putting it loosely. :P They are the same profile found on certain MSXes and Bondwell laptops and so on, which look spherical, but feel incredibly flat to the touch. I call it MSX uniform profile. As for the flat keys across the main board, no idea if tha...

Certainly waaaaay too big for my place. I agree though - it seems like it'd be best for it to stay in Japan. Whoever gets it though, it would be interesting to hear about. I have a feeling that it contains SKCL, if not some other Alps of the same era. I don't think it is SKCC unless the bezels are s...

Re: Novelkeys Cream switches review (MonkeyKing iGK61)

Oh no, like hardware store acetone, not nail polish remover. Yeah, it seems like a good idea to have multiple people testing this. I mean, I've had some melt from heat - from a heat gun. Maybe some clones or perhaps forward electronics produced housings or something? It would be interesting to get t...

Re: Novelkeys Cream switches review (MonkeyKing iGK61)

Both Alan (a former Alps employee who assembled AKCL/SKCM boards) and Steve (vice president of Matias) said they were. I'm also sure I had the discussion a long time ago with someone who mentioned that their housings melted in acetone (at the time I DIDN'T think they were ABS). Pretty sure I tested...

Re: Novelkeys Cream switches review (MonkeyKing iGK61)

Just one bit of the video I wanted to mention. At one point, you say that Alps SKCM/SKCL housings are made from ABS, but that is certainly not the case as I've tested a housing with an acetone swab as well as (after watching the video, to be sure) soaking a housing in acetone for an entire day. Both...

You don't need to look past the homing bars to identify these caps; no, they are not PBT.

The extra pins are fixing pins for the PCB-mount variant of these that do not have plates. So, if you have plate-mount switches along with a plate, you don't really need to worry about them.

Re: SKCM brown tactile leaf question

The steel is thicker iirc. Can you do a comparison where you test the loose switch you have with the dimpled leaf as well as a more typical SKCM Brown where you swap the non-dimpled tactile leaf with a dimpled contact leaf of the same style? I'd like to hear what the differences are in feel, if any...

Re: SKCM brown tactile leaf question

Want a quick way to see how they feel? Take some Alps switches you don't care about, the earlier variety with the round dimple on the contact leaf, take the leaves off and swap them onto the dummy plates on your SKCM Brown switches.

That's basically exactly what it is.

Re: Xerox Docutech Cap Question

If you remove the caps lock key, flip it over, and see that the LED window has a small rectangular piece pinned with plastic rivets, it's PBT. If the cap has a whole shot of clear plastic under it, then it's definitely ABS. That's the distinction. :)

Yes, that is correct. That is a 6085 just to be clear. I've got an AZERTY 6085 that has an ABS caps lock as well, but that's the only board I've seen with such a thing.

Even if NOS, even if NIB, a Leading Edge DC-2014 should never burn a $600 hole in your pocket. Even $400 is much more than I'd ever pay for one. I'd say something around $250 would be much more reasonable for NIB if you really like DC-2014s. The keyboard has great build quality, great acoustics, but...
