Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

My bet is that the left key is the original - the legends are a little thicker and less fuzzy around the edges. That's based on me zooming in on the picture, I would have difficulty telling the difference if I saw these caps on two keyboards side by side. If I am wrong, and the left is the new keyca...

Re: RedMarket now open!

The Sherwood board is interesting; they were a famous American hi-fi company in the 50s and 60s. By the late 70s, their kit was mostly made by a firm called Inkel in South Korea. Wonder if they also made the keyboard. It looks pretty similar to the Wyse LK201 clones, and similar keyboards which wer...

Re: Unicomp SSK coming March 2020

It always seemed odd to me that they didn't make the 103-key layout the default option. Since they are able to program the keyboards on their end, they could easily add an option to let you select between having two Windows keys, or Windows on the left and that useless menu key on the right. On thei...

Space key on numpad was common on the 122-key 3270 keyboards: http://livedoor.blogimg.jp/wolkenritter_nyny/imgs/1/f/1f654d7b.jpg My theory on these keyboards is that AT&T licensed the design from IBM, but manufactured it themselves. The FCC IDs for the keyboards listed Lucent (who were owned by AT&T...

Model m for example is compatible with both ansi and iso, usint for both the same frame/plate. Will this tkl be compatible with both?
Unless they have created a new return key design just for this keyboard which is incompatible with the ISO layout, I would imagine it supports both layout types.

For the standard keyboards, there's a 1.5/1/1.5/7/1.5/1/1.5 configuration available.

Re: Question about my IBM "industrial" / "grey" Model M

The black square label Industrial Model M is usually associated with the IBM 7531, which was an Industrial version of the PC AT. It was launched in mid 1985, and most of the examples you see online are from the mid to late 80s. There's two possible explanations as to why one was made in 1990: 1) IBM...

While the PC keyboards had the tab and backtab symbol on the same key, most IBM terminal keyboards had two separate keys - the backtab was in the same position as the \| key on modern US keyboards (including the 4704) https://www.modelfkeyboards.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/DSC_6526.jpg and the 12...

Re: New French keyboard standard

Obviously the decision was to keep the numbers, which are by far more frequent than the accented capitals É, Ê and the like, directly accessible with Shift while the accented capitals are AltGr+the key. This affects only the number row, and does it in a consistent way. Agreed, but it seems like the...

I like Honeywell rubber domes, which I first experienced on the DEC LK4xx series. Recently I bought a Honeywell 101WN keyboard, like this (not my picture): https://socket3.files.wordpress.com/2017/12/honeywellkb-4.jpg?w=1800&h= While it is unmistakably a rubber dome, it has a distinctive thock, and ...

There was also a Model C1, etc. which were types of "F", and iirc there were F's that were called Model M as well. I'm really not sure the letter is related to the sensing method. Re: What do "M" and "F" stand for?

It took me a while to make the connection, but there's another place where I've seen the letter "B" to describe a beam spring keyboard - the 3277 keyboard was made in two variants: the original used Microswitch switches, and a later model which came a number of years later which used Beam Springs. Re: Model M Chattering

FWIW, Unicomp sells new membranes, as well as new rubber mats.

If you have issues with keys failing and/or chattering, you can potentially repair yourself, but it sounds like this keyboard has been through a lot and replacing the membrane outright may be the best path forward.

Nice find. Although, as pointed out elsewhere, "field service/technicians/engineers" is a common term in the industry to refer to an engineer who is sent to a customer site to fix a problem. One other weird thing about these Honeywell Ms is that Honeywell were making their own rubber dome keyboards ...
