Re: Beam Spring 104+SSK Reproduction Project! First Batch In Stock, Shipping early next year after New Model F Project
Following darkcruix's example, I have installed some Costar plate mounted stabilizers on my R1 beamspring keyboard. They were easy to install, and help mitigate the wobble/instability of the 2u+ keys. I also installed it on the spacebar, which does not obviate the need for the separate return spring...

Re: Beam Spring 104+SSK Reproduction Project! First Batch In Stock, Shipping early next year after New Model F Project
Just wanted to share that I found out that the Costar stabilizers work perfectly with the larger keys (>= 1.75U) and I have added them to the respective keys with great success. There is no modification required and fit just right in the cutouts of the top switch plate. The top hook of the costar s...

Re: Beam Spring 104+SSK Reproduction Project! First Batch In Stock, Shipping early next year after New Model F Project
Update: after some experimentation - I realized the trick was to insert the space bar stabilizer assembly from the *top* of the plate, and not from the bottom. The wire goes into the slot in the plate first, and then you move the clips so that they sit on top of the plate. The clips do not appear to...

Re: Beam Spring 104+SSK Reproduction Project! First Batch In Stock, Shipping early next year after New Model F Project
daedalus the setup video in the manual on the project web site shows how to reinstall the space bar - this is the current recommendation. There is also another option I use involving inserting the Model F space bar so that the smaller end supports below the stabilizer (so that you do not break the ...

Re: Beam Spring 104+SSK Reproduction Project! First Batch In Stock, Shipping early next year after New Model F Project
Is there any place where the process for reinserting the space bar stabilizers is described? Mine keeps on falling out during assembly, and since I am more used to screw-in stabs, I'm having trouble figuring out how to get it reinserted properly. Honestly, I would like to think that the spacebar mou...

Re: Classic Unicomp Speaker Hole?
I would bet good money that Unicomp found a couple of these old-style cases lying around the warehouse and wanted to use them up. There would be no good reason for them to reintroduce the cable routing slots which only work with the thin terminal cables and not USB or PS/2, unless, as suggested earl...

I just ordered a B122 and I'm thinking about how to get keycaps. I did include the keycap set in the order, though only one. I realize now I need more keys, probably. Not sure if the second set can be added? Also while double shot is nice I prefer dye sublimation. I like the /dev/tty MT3 keycap set...

The Digital LK201 keyboards are the my personal gold standard for terrible keyboards. I believe the Cherry MY is a similar switch design, so I expect those may be comparable in terms of awfulness.

daedalus there should be some ability to wobble the barrels a bit, even with most IBM Model F originals. Tightening the top inner assembly plate when it is not installed with the rest of the parts is something I have done with a large vice and has improved the sound a bit on some F107 originals for...

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

For me personally, one of the constraints is making sure that the layout is supported by common Cherry keycap sets. There's not too many keycap sets out there which have enough caps for a 122-key layout.

5 to 8 degrees tilt seems reasonable to implement? I don't think acoustics would be affected by a few extra mm higher in the back side below the board though for beam springs. My beam spring originals have pretty thick feet and the back is much thicker than the front, so the cases appear to be tilt...

When we get closer I expect to put up some videos of the sound and operations to help folks decide. The advantage of the first round is not having to wait a year - having everything in stock, plus the full sound quality (extra reverberant and snappy) while the advantage of the second round will be ...

I wonder if Unicomp make ISO returns in their "Brilliant White" colour. That would be an ideal candidate for dying the keycap to whatever shade of grey is needed.

The keyboards are clearly a 104 and 87 key layout. Perhaps people are saying 84 because the old SSK is an 84-key keyboard and people are more used to that.

Note that the case is a different design to the older ones as well - the newer one has a much smaller bezel, particularly around the top of the keyboard. If you look at your keyboard and compare it with a picture of a Unicomp Classic, or old IBM Model M, you should be able to see the difference. The...
