Re:

Here are the very final files that I have sent to "pcbway". I just hope that they used this version that I submitted via email after the order was made, I added some instructions in the bottom silk layer to clarify that the pads were only in the connector. The zip contains the deltacad, diptrace an...

Re: IBM Model M 1386303

Hey, I'm sorry to bump this thread, but I have a 1386303 (and the IBM terminal it's meant for), so I can shed some more light on this than already has been in this thread. You're right about pretty much everything you said, first of all. The keycaps are likely original; IBM's successors to this init...

what's 'meh' about it? how would it compare to, say, mitsumi mechanicals like the m0110/m0110a apple keyboards have? My only other mitsumi switch experience is with miniature mechanicals found in the tandy 1400LT. Are they linear switches? If they were the same things used in the commodore 64/vic-20...

Nintendo Famicom Family Basic Keyboard - What's it like?

Hi, I'm considering buying a Famicom BASIC keyboard. The Famicom was the Japanese version of the NES, and there was a special cartridge and peripheral you could use to write BASIC programs on your famicom. If you had the cassette deck you could even save your programs to it, in home computer style :...

I think those are on the wiki, actually. They look kinda neat, though. I think it was from a cash register or something.

I wonder if it feels and sounds like an F, or if it's dampened a bit by the membrane.

It's great to get so many replies :)

Thinking when I head off to college in a couple weeks I'll take the terminal and my server together instead of a normal PC monitor, just because this uses less system resources than X11 and it'll give me an excuse to use that M.

What terminals did the model F 122 key come with? I'm aware some of them were later used with M's, but I am not sure which ones were around when F's were being made. Was the 3270 one of them?

I suggest ordering an F77. The F77 is approximately an SSK-sized Model F keyboard, just without the function keys being separate keys. You can make it look like my attached photo or make the right side's 15 keys be like the layout of an SSK (Print Screen, Scroll Lock, Pause, Insert/Del/etc., cursor...

Ah, okay. I've never even seen a F122 on ebay, myself - only M's. I don't check every single day, and I don't know exactly what to search for, so that may be part of it... but I'll take your word for it :p

Any chance that we can get any other sizes in the future? (122 key F, for instance, would make me VERY happy. So would a 101 key or SSK-sized F)

Here's mine as it stands.

The blue label IBM is a 59G7980 - the silver badge IBM is a 1386303 connected to its original IBM 3161 terminal.

And just so you're aware we aren't all that tidy, kbdfr, this was my desk a few months ago.

Thanks Khers :)

I found out I can use the 1386303 with a PC by swapping the PCB out of one of my PS/2 M's. Gonna keep that terminal intact for now, though, it's been fun setting it up. I'm glad I got the manual with the terminal, otherwise I probably would have never been able to figure it out :\

Eh, I've looked into the space saver. I'd like one, but unless I stumble on one in real life (where it may actually be priced sanely), I'm going to consider this better for my own sake (and my wallet's sake) :\ I don't really mind the numpad, anyway. And yeah, this was my parents' phone. I got it fr...

Thanks, seebart.
I have two other M's - both were free. 59G7980 and 1391401. But I really was pleased to find this locally, and it feels a little different (smoother) compared to my other M's as well. I like it a lot.

IBM 3161 Terminal & Model M 1386303, the original enhanced keyboard

Hi, there. Last november I went to a HAM radio convention (HAMfest) and found this very nice little IBM terminal, for $18 (USD): http://i.imgur.com/fIqm6Fu.jpg I knew nothing about it at the time, but after getting home I looked it up, and learned this is an IBM 3161 ASCII Display Station (terminal)...
