Re: Great/Interesting Finds

Well shit, time to waste some money. A NOS Model M with the Brazilian layout? That mofo's mine. Probably. Unless it goes really expensive. It went for higher than I wanted, but hey, brand fucking new Model M from Lexmark for Unicomp prices? Hell yeah. https://i.imgur.com/Fnwqu9O.jpg Interesting is ...

Meh, what're you gonna do? That guy's been trying to sell that board for a long time. One of the guys on Reddit is using that to try and sell his own frankenboards for outrageous prices. As for paying $50 for a Model M, the only Models M I've bought that have cost more than $50 have been New In Box ...

Re: IBM Model F XT -> One squishy and pingy key

Yep! The old vertical spring trick! Sometimes that doesn't even work, and you have to try it a few times. Typically, any squishy and pingy key is just a misaligned spring, and even if you try taking it off and putting it on a dozen times, it might not be aligned right. Make sure you exhaustively do ...

They really need to bring back the white-on-black printed caps. With a UV cured epoxy coating those legends will stay on there forever. Anyone up for a group buy! Probably need to order a few hundred sets... IIRC, they told me something like a few hundred would be pretty small from their suppliers....

Re: Post your keyboard/keycaps!

So, regarding the XT being the best keyboard IBM ever made, I must concede that I may have spoken too soon. While I do consider the XT to be the best of the traditionally available Models F floating around, I just tried an F107. It turns out these are better. The keyfeel and build quality of the XT ...

And it's sooooold for $425 plus $50 shipping! Haha crazy man! I'm all for the battleships, honestly I am, but I ain't never gonna own one if it keeps going like this. One really really has to have a need for 122 keys to invest that much in a Model F. Some have been going for over $500 to nearly a th...

Wow. Those pamphlets are awesome! And so are the keyboards! I'll buy the Models M off you probably, I love those things. But, I suggest keeping them. They really are nice. The one with the oval badge you can use right now with your computer, but the one at the top needs a converter, but it's a first...

While they could reverse dyesub to get woblegends I suspect it would be more trouble than it is worth for unicomp. Would love to see it someday I asked about that, actually. The answer was basically that it was more trouble than it was worth. Troy suggested dying them ourselves and selling them all...

Yes, that's fairly typical as of late. Most of the pearls are one piece and the pebbles are two pieces. And the colours are definitely off on the pebble, but they're also ever so slightly off on the pearl as well, which is interesting. It is slight. You can order a full custom set for $30, printed h...

One of the reasons I keep mine closed in boxes is to keep the dust off of them. I'm worried enough about my Alps boards before cleaning off a fucking foot of dusk if I don't get to my Focus in the next year.

Yes, I think Box whites or Matias are a good bet. Flexibility is difficult with Matias, but you can get Box Whites in stuff. The click is a bit high pitched though.

Unicomp is good folks. Would love to get my employer to order a couple hundred thousand boards from them. A couple hundred thousand? That narrows it down. Not a lot of companies with that kind of (white collar) workforce. My old employer had >400k employees but they’re one of the largest companies ...

It's worth whipping out. I still had some muscle memory left from when I was really little using one, but it's legitimately easy. Remap the tilde to Return to make a Medium Ass Enter and you're good to go. Basically the same as any other keyboard. I also have an AT and the XT is the one I have retur...

I've already given my two cents about this on the original r/ModelM post, but again, I really enjoyed reading this! I think most of their responses were reasonable given they are not really an enthusiast-focused company, however, I think they should pay attention to the pointing sticks, still. I ho...

Hi guys. This is a long one. I just thought I'd post this here. Man if I didn't just buy a big fat 4704 I'd get that Leading Edge in a second, with the work you did to it. It's the perfect keyboard layout IMO. It's the perfect XT layout, but without the stepped keys. And with Alps. I mean, could it get any better?!

I've been taking it upon myself to redo the Luxembourg City Tourist Office's postcards, which I've found to be worryingly easy to take and not in any way creative. I contacted Unicomp support. They are happy to modify the bottom row for a modest fee. This clears the way to me picking up a new SSK once they are offered. Hey XMIT. You don't even need to do that, which is awesome. As long as you have a long spacebar you can do it yourself in literally 10 seconds...

Re: IBM Model M replacement keycaps - Where to buy?

I wonder if maybe that's due to the personal wear on the keys. I have some Alps switches that will only work with the sliders they've always had, and don't work with other ones. They're scratchy. Maybe, over time, your old Unicomp keys have kind of just begun to sit with the barrel and now they won'...
