It’s a nice looking board, presented and posed very well. But those lock lights say it all. You’re still an OG IBM SSK short of membership in this particular club.
The OG Japanese SSKs already had lock lights though. Unicomp should have just used that design in my opinion.
Modern laptop keyboards are trash, all copying Apple. Companies are now run by lazy millenials who all copy Apple. They even mostly make crappy Apple-knockoff desktop chiclet keyboards now. But hey, at least you still have a trackpoint. Wasn't that nasty arrow cluster pioneered by HP? I know Apple ...
You don't even need to chance the Mini M barrel frame. Unicomp still sells the 84 key SSK barrel frame right here: https://www.pckeyboard.com/page/product/CVSET (choose the Frame-84key option). I used the Unicomp frame to build my FSSK . Oh wow!!! Thx for that. Now I can finish my FSSK, or at the v...
Well, look on the bright side: the cool grey industrial one should be very easy to sell. :D When I’m next in California, I’ll have my SSK with me to install Taylor Swift’s FSSK upgrade which is waiting with family over there. Think that will leave me with a spare SSK barrel plate on my hands if tha...
Assemblies? Got a picture of what's broken, exactly? Well, the first one started to crack because SSK plastic assemblies are VIRTUALLY CRACKING out of box from the stress they're in. And then the other one fell off from a high shelf where I was storing it and it split in half completely. I'll just ...
Ask Ellipse, the man behind them. He’s active here on DT, too. I know where you’re coming from re: shell compatibility. His aesthetic is… clunky to the point of brutal. Don’t know if he’s done us a favour and kept his design within IBM’s shell tolerances. Certainly wouldn’t count on it until proved...
It's fairly common in forums for individuals to move on as everyone has an expiration in the microcosm: whether it's because you've lost interest, have to deal with real-world problems, actually died, etc. Hell, even our favourite friends Webwit and Ripster are long out of the keyboard game. https:/...
The device itself seems to be a rebrand of a Labtec (later 3DConnexion) Spaceball 4000. Believe it or not but the device existed even before labtec -- the original company (I forget the name) has been bought out like over 4 times. Because Logitec purchased labtec they also got the 3DConnexion asset...
Oh man, this makes me real sad. The last DM I got from Seebart was in 2017: IBM 6298329 Sent: 25 Apr 2017, 14:46 From: seebart Recipient: micrex22 Have a look at that keyboard I linked please micrex22 and tell me if you think that might be manufactured by brother also? photos-f62/ibm-rt-e57888-t4101...
I really love this hobby, not only that but I really love how charming this place is (two or three threads of millennial battle royale will not stain years of kindest group of strangers I've ever knew), but I really feel like we completed the main quest of keyboards. Yes, we still have side quests ...
Looking for a winkeyless 84-key MX-compatible keyboard. I want to try out the kailh jades in something nice.
If anyone also knows of any place to buy an 84-key winkeyless MX, let me know.
We're fast approaching September, which was the month we were planing to do this GB right? It's hard to say, looks like the mfdrop.com site expired (lotlizard may still have a lot of things to sort out): I really shouldn’t announce this yet, but we will be initiating the re-commencement of our buy ...
(1) Update Windows 10 to the latest updates, (2) run sfc /scanow, (3) run an online DISM repair: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth (4) uninstall 3rd party programs that may be interfering with Windows 10, like classic shell -- or try to pinpoint what you may have installed that agitated it ...
-I think the best way of approaching new SSK chassis would be taking an impression mold and casting new ones like what phosphor glow did. I would... except I don't want to cast a mold from my NIB industrial SSK... and my ivory SSK has deformities making it also unsuitable. Otherwise I would have cas...
That said, I do quite like a lot about it. I finally get to write in Helvetica! It's actually possible to enforce a font override (out of the box) in Firefox if you don't want to use other websites fonts for writing and viewing. I use this because I disable font smoothing, and doing means you need ...
My unpopular opinion:
Caps lock is superior to the shift key for changing the cases of alphas.
#1 it's in a more ideal row than shift allowing easier access for my pinky
#2 I you don't have to 'hold down' caps lock like shift, you just toggle it
Geekhack already had a schism before this one--that's why Deskthority itself was created (if anyone has been around long enough to remember Webwit posting there). Then Ripster eventually got banned and went to Reddit, which is probably how the keyboard community there got kickstarted. I will have to...
I've been meaning to reply to this thread to explain that 'scneider' mouse. It's actually a philips mouse, and was released for some microcomputers at the time, and also the Roland sampler series, such as the S-760 which I own. https://www.synthfind.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/mu1.jpg I can't rem...
That is a model M, not a model F. The connector is for an IBM infoview terminal base. You won’t be able to convert it to a PC without a lot of logic....
In comparison to fried potatos it is proven that onions are healthy, in moderate quantities of course. None of those listed are "controversial culinary vegetables" IMO. Sure, too much of anything can get unhealthy. I love burgers and french fries, just not the ones from those well known FF chains. ...
I think onions are evil and should be wiped off the Earth using an aggressive bombing campaign. I'm sure there are some onions in the vindaloo paste I use, but they've been boiled to death with so many spices that I can't tell. There seem to be a fair amount of controversial culinary vegetables; wh...
I've had this issue before: it's the ancient ribbon cable. Those ribbon cables are pretty stale at this point and can cause intermittent connectivity between the PCB and controller.
Sometimes it can be calmed down by bending around, else just replace it with IDE cabling.
