Re: Deskthority Secret Santa 2019

I for my sake would love to join, except: 1) I pretty much have everything I could want apart from crazy expensive stuff like beamsprings and MT3 profile keycaps 2) the Secret Santas from previous years set the bar impossibly high, so I worry that my gift would end up seeming insultingly small/cheap...

Re: Alps TKL with SKCM Browns [Endgame Candidate]

Thanks for the kind words :) The Jane case is gorgeous, but yeah it breaks the bank a bit. The Aliexpress case is plain looking, but the material and finish fit my minimum requirements for endgame at a great price. And if I were to sink another couple hundred bucks into this build I think a set of s...

Re: Alps TKL with SKCM Browns [Endgame Candidate]

The holes in the middle yes - the PCB is screwed down there. The issue is the bottom part is not resting on anything so if you press hard on e.g. the spacebar you’ll feel the inner assembly give a bit, not nice. One solution is to 3D print (or fashion from a few pieces of wood?) a piece that can sit...

Re: Post your desktop.

Cheeseplant! ahem. Apart from the "nobody has as many friends" etc, our house is littered with them as they seem quite prolific and cope well with dubiously effective attention. Disturbingly tidy desks, though. They need toppling piles of random paperwork with bits of computer randomly strewn among...

Lovely haul, congrats! I especially liked the Microswitch, the SGI prototopre and the SSKs, but I’m a simple Scandinavian with simple tastes.

Nice build!! As complex as it is under the hood, you’ve made it look clean and cohesive, no easy feat for a custom Alps build with multiple keycap sources. Big kudos!

The office I share with my fiancée (her desk is on the other side of the monitors, facing mine) - not quite r/battletops ready but at least it’s got it where it counts, namely the keyboards :)

Just thought this post by Jacobolus deserves a repost. Three years ago and basically 100% correct on every point. Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

If I understood correctly, the keyboards on those pallets still don’t have keycaps installed, and Ellipse has to do the dyesub and quality check (“each one by hand” was the intent if memory serves).

So I doubt these will start shipping out to customers the same day they arrive on Ellipses doorstep.

Re: Stuff you just bought

It’s a Weihrauch HW30S, a very low power springer, fitted with a nice Hawke Vantage IR 2-7x32AO scope. The limit for no-license ownership here is 10 joules but I ordered it from Germany where the limit is 7.5 J; in layman’s terms, it might kill a bird but it’ll barely break skin on a mammal (ok it’l...

Re: Burn him at the stake

Unpopular opinion: he’s not really wrong. I used a similar Dell rubberdome chiclet keyboard for years which frankly was a fine daily driver; it’s quiet, durable (ok maybe not takes-30-years-of-abuse-like-a-model-m durable, but spill resistant with solid legends), tactile, low profile. and cheap as c...

Re: Terminal Model M converting?

Awesome, thank you guys! Mine has the DIN plug and the kids use it to play with (my step daughter was always interested in my collection, so at one point I let her pick one of my less-precious boards, and she picked the M122), and lately I’ve been thinking I should convert it so they can use it with...

Terminal Model M converting?

Hi Here’s a silly question: Are terminal model Ms still not easily converted to USB? I recall a few years back when I got my terminal M-122, people were saying that they were essentially worthless since they couldn’t be converted like the normal PS2 connector models. But there’s been so much develop...

Re: More products added

Most product search pages use a separate search index ‘engine’ for that; the benefit is you get fast and powerful features like complex attribute filters, sorting, live search, freetext fuzzy search, etc. The drawback is one more component to configure and operate (e.g. reindexing nightly or wheneve...

First of all, impressive work! I love the attention to variants and the detailed explanations for every change. There’s a lot to like here! A while back, I toyed with a solution to this problem myself, but I went with adding a column to the right of the alphas, and moving a few keys around to make i...
