Also, Wheelwriter keyboards with an "ISO" instead of a "BAE" key are pretty unusual.

I would definitely get this one for the unusual keycaps.
Cool. If someone else really wants it just say so and I’ll pass on it, but if not I’ll probably grab it for the caps.

Ah of course! So it’s a source of keycaps and springs - maybe model M flippers? Anything else of value for a scavenger?

Re: Great/Interesting Finds

This one from a swedish marketplace - looks interesting.... I don’t even know what it is, but it’s an IBM buckling spring, but it’s... different. The inner assembly is marked 1393181.

Thanks beepbloop! Out of all the early boards reviewed so far, yours is the one closest to my own order, and wow it looks fantastic like that! At this rate I’ll probably not be receiving mine until 2021, but what a glorious keyboard it is!

Holy hell Damonsk, that's some collection! Two beamers including the compact one, Unsaver, Indy SSK, JIS SSK, Kinesis, F50 (or is it an M?), Realforce TKL, tons of Leading Edge boards (I figure there's got to be several blue Alps boards in there)... As far as I can tell you just need a Kishy or an E...

Cool typing sound demo Ellipse! I know you’ve mentioned several times over the last few years that you’ve restored lots of Model Fs and they all sound different, but like a lot of people I’ve only ever owned one, so I never really got what you meant until this video — SUPER interesting! Re: Wish me luck...

Me personally, I don't take a job that doesn't pay me enough to buy the tools I need, and I buy my own tools. Laptops are a dime a dozen (by which I mean they're not terribly special), the company can buy and keep that. But keyboards, mice, chairs, headsets, even monitors - when possible, these are...

Re: Wish me luck...

Btw, the company must have profited a lot so that they could invest a keyboard with 350$ for their employee. Yup, it’s big money for sure. As for the bureaucracy, my now-former job had lengthy processes in place for these things, but they only had one or two keyboard options (volume discounts...

Re: Wish me luck...

Ha, great to hear that “our” hardware ends up in good hands. Actually last year they were dumping a ton of old gear from the R&D floor and I noticed a pile of Nortel BayStack 48 port 10/100 managed switches that they were sending to the e-cycler. I don’t know much but they looked expensive, so natur...

Re: Wish me luck...

I went and asked the friendly guys in IT asset management (their office is right by the coffee machine and I had nothing to do anyway) and they said no problem, just keep the mouse and keyboard. I guess they have better things to do than de-cap and de-grease people’s old keyboards just to be able to...

Re: Wish me luck...

Thanks for the replies and the support. First off, I’m not going to just run off with it, since it’s company property and I wouldn’t do that. The company ponied up good money on it to make me happy when they could have reasonably told me I had to find a cheaper one. I’m not going to repay that with ...

So I quit my job recently, couldn’t take my toxic and incompetent boss any longer so I am leaving for a much better role in the same field, but in a different industry. I’m with Sharktastica on this. There’s a lot of hate thrown at Unicomp in MK forums, but I really really want them to succeed. IBM style buckling spring keyboards are easy to customize, they are more satisfyingly clicky than almost any other switch out there, and they are just plain cool. Enthusiast...

Overall condition of the keyboard is great (it's NOS!), I only need to remove that thick layer of 30-years old smelly flux from the PCB and replace the decomposed foam rubber pads under the Spacebar.
‘Smelly Flux’ is the name of my Beastie Boys cover band.

I’ve used electrical tape in projects before and I always end up regretting it because the adhesive gives up at the slightest sign of heat, cold, moisture or mechanical stress, leaving the tape curling up an...

You all do realize that is what we look like to the vintage computing guys. Always cannibalizing some old keyboard for switches or keycaps, thus destroying a perfectly good vintage keyboard that could have completed some collector’s vintage system. I’m not sure we are in a great place to judge the g...

Thanks for the kind words :) The Jane case is gorgeous, but yeah it breaks the bank a bit. Re: Alps TKL with SKCM Browns [Endgame Candidate]

The holes in the middle yes - the PCB is screwed down there. The issue is the bottom part is not resting on anything so if you press hard on e.g. the spacebar you’ll feel the inner assembly give a bit, not nice. One solution is to 3D print (or fashion from a few pieces of wood?) a piece that can sit...
