Can my xwhatsit controller be used on an IBM 3727 beam spring?
I have an xwhatsit USB-C controller that I purchased from Model F Labs LLC ( https://www.ebay.com/itm/324956507598 ) and I would like to know if it can be used on my IBM beam spring 3727 keyboard? I have already used this controller on my IBM 5251 and checked in QMK Configurator ( http://35.164.28.2...

DS-2006 US 101
I collect and restore keyboards (shocker, I'm on this website) I'll be posting some keyboards here one at a time, as I'm trying to downsize my collection a bit. This DS-2006 uses a 180 degree din and sports solid build quality. I've cleaned it up, but the switches are in need of either replacement o...

Help setting up my IBM 5251!!
Operating system: Windows 11 Keyboard: IBM 5251 beam spring (1980) Hi! I have an IBM beam spring 5251 in excellent condition and I would like to convert it to USB. For this, I bought a controller from Joe (Model F Labs LLC) on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/324956507598?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-12...

Re: F104+SSK+122+62+77+50+Ergo orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards
Been having some issues flashing the firmware for an F62 in Linux. Eventually figured it out though, with a bit more sleuthing than I had expected. lol Can you perhaps elaborate on specifically what the problem was, as well as what the solution ended up being / how you solved it? Sure! - I couldn't...

Re: Smart IBM PC/AT keyboard
Okay, I tried to buy a PocketBeagle. BeagleBoard doesn't sell them on its web site. Going price on eBay and Amazon was $65 and $59. I found them at Mouser Electronics for $35.63 plus $8 shipping. With tax, that's close to fifty bucks. I'll have to think about that for a while. I *could* just run an ...

Re: Help with xwhatsit and IBM Model F AT
Are you sure your controller is 32u4? As I recall, all of Xwhatsit's original controllers—including the one I installed in my AT—are 32u2. The chip makes a difference. Their hex files are incompatible. As I recall, I laid out my AT based on this starting point in Pandrew's configurator: http://35.16...

Help with xwhatsit and IBM Model F AT
I recently installed an xwhatsit controller into my original IBM Model F AT. I’ve spent a couple of days now trying to get this working, and I think I'm likely missing something painfully obvious. Installing the xwhatsit controller was no problem (I don’t use my vacuum desoldering station much, but ...

Re: Help with F122 Firmware
Well, that’s Pandrew’s thread so my guess is it’s running (his capsense port of) QMK. Doesn’t actually matter which firmware, as you’ll need to replace it to modify the layout, which is presumably your goal. My advice in your case? Well, what you want is actually quite simple. But the many choices n...

Re: What is the Lightest, Highest Actuating, Clicky Switch?
Zeal Clickiez has a really harsh bottom out. As someone who has tried Box Navies and also regularly bottoms out with most switch types I thought it wouldn't bother me, and while they feel satisfying to type on, the harsh bottom out gets tiring pretty quick. I still prefer Alps SKCM, buckling springs...

Hey, long time no see (but sometimes I still lurk), because I still use the same two keyboards since a long time (hmkb 96 and vortex 68). Re: 5251 Troubles
PCB tracks coRRRRRRRosion? Could also be breadcrumbs ingress - even very small particles getting under the plate materially lower the levels (although on the beamspring it will likely cause spontaneous keypresses rather than chatter). Ugh. I was afraid of that. I hope it's possible to simply clean ...

Re: Model F angle and curvature?
Magnificent, thank you! So for the Model M it’s 171mm wide and 12.5mm high, so it subtends an angle of 33° and has a radius of curvature of 300mm, or 11.8 inches (35 barleycorns or shoe size 12 for Chyros’s leftpondian fans). The bigger angle is not too surprising because it has to cover the F key r...

Re: Dear Model F owners, can we talk? (Long rant)
Ah, yucking people’s yums, as they say. The thing about the Model M specifically is its monumental reputation . Set aside how it got it, and accepting the fact it’s there, the result is people with some existing mech experience often dismissing buckling spring entirely when they do encounter it and...

The comment about modelfkeyboards.com makes me wonder: has anyone tried fitting an F77 inner assembly inside an SSK case? If they fit, then making an FSSK becomes a much easier process! Nope.
