Re: F104+SSK+122+62+77+50+Ergo orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

I have just made an additional blog post regarding a potential group buy for the Deskthority site: Save Deskthority! As some of you may have heard, the future of the Deskthority mechanical keyboard forum is uncertain after the current owners have offered it for sale. It was suggested that I head up ...

Re: Future of DT

Today I reached out to this site's proprietor expressing my interest and received a thoughtfully written reply including the information that they are looking for $15k for the site and that an offer for $5k was turned down. My guess is that the final price may settle around $7.5k to $10k if they wis...

Re: Smart IBM PC/AT keyboard

I found out that a full-size Raspberry Pi board will *just barely* fit. The Ethernet port is blocked by one of posts that holds the LED board. I did some trial fitting with a 3B+. The Pi 4 has USB OTG and the same port layout, but that's $55+shipping, and way more horsepower than I need. [twiddling ...

Here's an interesting example of the apparent ghosts of spam in those post IDs! https://deskthority.net/viewtopic.php?p=514065#514065 As usual for a false positive, the opening post of a thread comes up. No size= in there. Then I see mmm and kbdfr having a curious conversation. Sure enough, there *...

Re: SA Retro

The £41 set you link is just the modifiers, though, and ANSI only at that. A full SA Retro right now costs 41 for mods + 41 for alphas another 37 for ISO , 15 for the numpad and whatever the shipping / customs are; which can be quite a nightmare. One of my very worst customs experiences was the one ...

The Keyboard Oracle has decided: thy problem is not electrical or software, yet mechanical 'i nature. The path to the wholeness may be found by reseating the keycap or by replacing the spring. I feel like these boards should come with a bunch of springs (don't need to be with flippers) free of char...

Re: Tescomate 55 [silver reed DWS]

Searching for a Silver Reed version of this machine continues, I've ruled out EXD15 as a possible model number as that machine is completely different in every way and uses pre-DIN switches. EXD might have been the "portable" line alongside the EX line of non portable machines? EXD10 being their tin...

Re: Tescomate 55 [silver reed DWS]

Speaking more broadly about Silver Reed dome switches, I think I should lay out the naming convention I have for them since that makes talking about them easier. Currently I am aware of 4 types, 5 if we count the slightly smaller sliders that the R5 caps on this machine use. I don't think the smalle...

Tescomate 55 [silver reed DWS]

Another day another Silver Reed find, this time one that appears to be a rebrand. I say "appears" because I can't actually find a silver reed version of this machine. from the PCB inside is appears to be related to the EXD10 but while those are very similar, with the chassis being essentially identi...

Re: Post your keyboard/keycaps!

The firmware version readout is just plain text "typed" automatically into the computer, right? (Essentially a macro.) If so, sounds like it ends with a series of Backspace characters to remove it; with the assumption the PC was immensely slower so you could read this message while it was typed then...

Full applicable laptop/subnotebook/portable workstation list M6 or M6-1 is given either by IBM/Lexmark's assignment or based on a keyboard's closest related M6 or M6-1 (pretty much all the keyboards are related to at least another or based on another's layout) with the discussion in the "M6 versus ...

bottom-out-damper.png Bottoming-out damper. Yes, the letter at the beginning of an IBM Model M serial number does mean something special. The letter indicates the plant where the keyboard was manufactured. A: Lexington, Kentucky B: Chicopee, Massachusetts C: Austin, Texas D: South Carolina E: Japan F: Mexico G: Taiwan H: China So, your keybo...
