Yikes, it took me a few weeks to find a place who will do galvanization and chromatic conversion to private customers without a bank busting price(30€). Just dropped of the 2 pieces for the plating and hopefully by next week I'll see what the results looked like. The plate which holds the switches i...

Alps SKCC Green, they are superb linear switches which are available NOS at a reasonable price (excl. shipping to EU) in the form of Pingmasters. Great weighting and really, really smooth, can't ask more from linears.

Do any of you happen to know the original painting method of the bottom part? When asking people I know I got mixed responses. One said powder coated and other one said you can't achieve such a grainy surface by powder coating. Now I'm just left confused and not knowing which companies to quote from...

To get the plate to that state I think it was either heat treated (annealed) or chemically oxidized or possibly anodized. I am not exactly a materials chemist but I play one on the internet. IMO you should clean it thoroughly then seal the surface rather then trying to remake the surface. I have us...

Yet another IBM 5251 restoration

I finally managed to grab myself by the neck and actually start doing something and lo and behold the 5251 from Nuum is now in pieces  Before: IMG_20171029_193612.jpg After: IMG_20171102_120735.jpg IMG_20171029_211003.jpg IMG_20171102_120817.jpg IMG_20171102_120920.jpg IMG_20171102_121144.jpg I...

So: made a ton of caps this weekend but also encountered some problems. While some colors were completely fine with over 95% of blanks getting good transfers, while other colors had extremely low melting points (like light-blue, which had a 80% failure rate using a 350F heat pressing). I randomly d...

@Halvar I double checked that Data is on PD0 and Clk is on PD1, tried changing pullups from 1k to 10k. The keyboard works perfectly fine when connected to the PS/2 port in my computer through my passive adapter. The solder joints for the headers don't have bridges either. However the 2 big caps near...

Mine actually doesn't work either. The locklights flash when I connect it and a keyboard appears in windows device manager, but then nothing happens. Maybe my omnikey draws way too much power? I measured VCC and GND and when it's connected its around 4.235v so waaay below 5v.

I do have to say that NOS Alps on my Pingmaster are just divine to type on. When I build my Alps64 with Greens I thought they were great switches, especially compared to Red Cherries. But these, these are just buttery smooth and the perfect weight kinda like I'd imagine how linear buckling springs s...

What is the big keyboard in the foreground, pansku? Yea it's a chinese pingmaster PN6341739. I'm currently having a little trouble with the pro micro as I'm unable to flash it again. For some reason even when connecting RST to GND twice in quick succession I'm unable to see it listed in COM ports. ...

Seebart said he is going to pass, so I'm currently waiting for response from fruitalgorithm about shipping details. The spacebar should be 7u wide. It is 133mm at the widest point which is the front edge. The used holes for stabs are made by me and are a bit too high up. The non used large cutouts are made by the tool. Here's a few quick pics with my phone and a measuring tape: IMG_20170718_192803.jpg IMG_2017071...

The project writeup in Popular Mechanics is great! Congrats, Ellipse. I'll be curious to hear if you get an uptick of interest from their readers. I don't know anything about NZ, but for people in Europe, my understanding is that there is no import duty on keyboards into the EU - has anyone had direct/relevant experience? Presumably VAT would need to be paid (plus collection fees), but I believe computer keyboards are exempt from duty. At lea...

I like black keys.
That looks really nice! Where did you get the black caps from?

I'm used to the noise level of an F so it has to be really pingy before I mind the noise.

If we are going to get more colors than white and pebble, make it two pebble and the most popular extra colour which at the moment seems to be red. So 3 caps in total.
