Re: First keyboard for neophyte
well that is like comparing a Farrari from 30 years ago and one from today they are both of high quality but it depends what you want from a board, with IBM you are locked to switch, keycaps and layout compared to what you can get today, on the other hand the IBM keyboard is going to be more ...

have you tried holding the board inverted (badge at the bottom) so that the spring is more central in the barrel when putting the key on?

Re: Are there any boards with the f77 layout? /what is that layout called?
i do not believe there has been a board ith that specific layout given that the vast majority would go for either 65/75% if they wanted arrow keys but smaller then a TKL aka SSK layout. you could probably quite easily design your own plate and sandwich case and then hand wire the board and get ...

Re: MX blacks: random impressions
I would say this topic is more about your personal key feel then just strictly MX blacks which are only one part of what gives a board its feel after things like keycaps, plate stiffness etc this is what makes keyboards very much a personal hobby as everyone will have their own sweet spot in terms ...

Meetups might be interesting: do they feature curry and beer? I was about to say that I'm not sure some fat old goth turning up would really raise the tone but it didn't seem to stop The Cure at Glasto. Meow, etc. :D

Re: MX blacks: random impressions
Hi Vometia, maybe you might be interested in attending the next UK mechanical keyboards meetup as you could then try other peoples boards with a whole host of switches and keycap profiles to then find one that you prefer rather then getting different boards? There are different spring weights so it ...

sadly that can happen depending on the ink that was used and also the temperature it was stored at. at least the keycaps can be replaced a lot easier then the rest of the assembly

I used left over underlay for laminate floorboards, it has the right thickness and compressibility needed.

Re: Why do you need foam on your model f?
The reason why bad foam ruins it is because the disintegrated foam gets in between the flippers and the pcb and then affects the capacitance which would then cause keys to not register properly.

Re: Why do you need foam on your model f?
the foam would help keep the barrels pressed down onto the pcb. even though the barrels have a small raised bud that fits through the barrel plate, it does not stop the barrel moving vertically up and down. If there is too much of a gap between the barrel and the pcb there is a chance that the ...

Re: Cursed model F thread
i think by using clamps and forcing the backplate into the tabs rather then bending the tabs themselves means that there is no mechanical stress put on the tabs unlike what your method would involve by bending the tabs out of the way.

i guess its just because the huge stack that was available has now mostly being sold though i would find it terrible if the pingmaster was so far a users only experience of alps and IBM but i suspect if a warehouse full of Model Fs was found and sold for cheap then you would see them everywhare also

Re: Send language layout from USB HID keyboard
I would say the best way to do it would be to use something like QMK firmware and have the different layouts that you want on different layers so you would be able to cycle to the layer that you want depending on the system you are in and with all programming done and remaining on the keyboard level.

Re: Univac Keyboard (Micro Switch)
ok so in your photo, the red is what you will use as rows i assume is the + on the sensor, the Black is ground and can therefore be wired together as you have done. Both central pins commoned together will be the columns. the idea being is that the power (rows) are strobed so therefore if the sensor ...
