I don't seen a reason why we don't continue the topic here. It's still very much relevant to the original intent of the project. If lot_lizard isn't coming back, we might as well try keep this project going...

Re: Unicomp SSK delayed, new Model M design coming

Sorry for the newbie question, I've seen the 6u spacebar replaced by a 7u spacebar, just by swapping it. This means that the spacebar has no stabilizers, just a two stems with a spring? The spacebar is stablized by a wire. spacebar.jpg And in the case of other stabilized keys, like the ansi enter, ...

No you can't. Model F uses capacitive sensing. Model M does not.

Re: Great/Interesting Finds

That's true, this is a decent price these days :/ Looks like they'll consider $375 or so with the best offer. How do you know how much they will accept for the best offer? I thought if you made an offer and they accept it, you are legally obligated to buy it. By contacting the seller and asking the...

Re: I visited Unicomp a couple days ago, typed on their new Mini M, and asked them some community questions. *long*

Maybe next time someone should ask them about spring customization. Making them a little less pingy, and more silent overall. Plus lighter like a model f. That would a really easy improvement. the springs are not what cause the lightness on model Fs. In fact you can interchange the M springs with F...

Re: Great/Interesting Finds

I know the beamspring market is what it is but I'm still kind of blown away that this went for $3000 https://www.ebay.com/itm/333652853060?_trksid=p2471758.m4704 lol, whoever bought it is in for a big disappointment. The model F is so much better than a beamspring! But then again, whatever makes on...

It's definitely genuine. There are known anomalies with parts. Not all 87 models had the "golden" plates. Also I've seen black cables on models as late as 1990.

Re: READY - $10 - DIY Through Hole Universal Model F and Beamspring Controller

Just noticed that "$10" part is a lie. ProMicro alone is $12, and if you're buying things for a single controller the rest is likely $5+. Plus PCB. Bollocks ! The pro micro costs 2.5 to 3.5 euros (less if you apply the AliExpress coupons) Here's a link... #Aliexpress € 2,60 10%OFF | New Pro Micro A...

Re: (Model MF) Remodeling the Model M (aka.. the Mara)

Injection molding is the way to go. The flipper plastic needs an additive (carbon) to make it capacitive. I'm just going to order a complete keyboard and then disassemble. I will offer the designs up to Unicomp if they want them - if not, i will publish them as open. It would be best if folks could...

I wrote to them too, got a similar reply. But I believe they will have these at some point. For all their other models the frame (barrel plate) and case is available for 20 USD each. We have to convince them to sell the curved back plate as well. JLCPCB will take care of the thin PCBs. What about th...
