Re: Great/Interesting Finds

Honeywell Hall Effect keyboard and terminal in Italy. I hope someone there can get this. https://www.ebay.com/itm/193212871297/ Looks like the same keyboard as Muirium's Honeywell Hall Effect from so many years ago. It's a bit out of my price range at the moment... I've seen this on and off for sev...

Re: Xwhatsit solenoid driver alternative

Personally I prefer to use a solid state relay as well. The diagram only represented the wiring against relay pins, I'll change it to a solid state relay. Also, I'll use a parallel usb for the source of power for the relay. I was a bit incorrect - relay is high-side, so it will work with a power su...

So here's how the schematics look solenoid_ed.jpg Updated: Added a Diode for safety. Notice the Labels on the Relay. It is IMPORTANT that you connect the cables correctly. The sequence of pins will differ by manufacturer. For the output you will need to connect to "COM" and "NO". This is assuming yo...

Re: Repair or replace cable on Lexmark Model M13

Why not just convert to USB? Just open up the keyboard, remove the original cable, pry open one of those cheap ps/2 to USB converters and solder the chip (harvested from the active converter) directly to the original model M controller.

I'd like to nominate two users for the best pictures of keyboards in their home office setup. Maybe the category can be called "Best Home Office Setup 2019" or "Best pictures in Gallery - 2019" 1. Darcruix's beamspring and F107 https://deskthority.net/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=1919&p=440294#p440294 2. Tr...

Xwhatsit solenoid driver alternative

I thought this needs mentioning, you can use a 50 cent relay to drive the solenoid. Yes that’s all one needs! Earlier this year, I tried to assemble a few solenoid drivers but abandoned the project as SMD soldering needs ninja soldering skills. So with a bit of research and reading around, the idea ...

Re: Wash springs & flippers in IBM Model F XT?

Springs may be washed in IPA. The flippers have a conductive coating on them, I don't know how IPA would react on the material. Best leave it as is.

No water for the springs or flippers. Springs need to be washed in IPA if necessary. Flippers should just be dry wiped, or use compressed air.

It's an authentic Beam Spring, hence at any price it's worth it. Would use it as a wall hanging once it's cleaned up and mounted properly. Very cherished art piece, worth far more to me than any Pollock or Hofmann. I have paid 80€ for mine, subtract 30 for the case ... I paid 800$ for mine and I re...

Check that your cables are not shorting each other. If that doesn't fix it, make sure your keyboard is grounded to the Promicro.

Or you could just solder in promicro (they cost less than 3 euros) and you have a USB mod on your Model M
Alternatively, you can pry open one of those active USB to PS2 converters (they cost exactly 1 euro), remove the PCB from them and solder that to the Model M PCB.
