Is correct, most lack a scroll wheel which make them pretty much unusable. Sure you can write a script to make a scroll lock but it isn't as convenient.

Thanks for the offer fossala, I wouldn't want you taking apart your s-type just for the sake of it though. Isn't it a silicone o-ring? Does it just sit on top of the plunger?

What makes 'silent' topre silent/slightly less noisy?

A while ago I remember seeing a number of pictures that detailed the different between regular and silent topre switches.

I remember seeing them on GH, but I assume that they were only linked there. Does anyone know where I can find them?

Thanks,

Jim.

Well I did it this morning and it worked a treat.

I left the diode the the spacebar so there are no issues with the switch moving about.

One last question, when I'm de-soldering the left spacebar switch, I know I have remove the solder from the two pins connected to the leaf, but do I also need to de-solder the diode?

What would be the consequence of leaving the diode soldered on this switch? It would be preferable to do so, as then ...

... which would be necesary to ensure that no 'space' gets sent.
perhaps a blob of hotglue would be your ideal saviour here, since it can be pulled right off when needed (afaik damaging nothing); then again, since you'll be hitting the switch from the top, I don't really see it coming out unless in ...

Ok, I guess it won't be too much of an issue. It's not like it's going to be moving a great deal, the stabilisers on each side of the switch should hold it in place once the space bar is on.

Necrobump!

Ok, so, now that: a) I've started using the 5000 as my full time keyboard, and b) I'm going to keep it for ever and ever... I'm actually going to get around to doing this mod.

Before I start though, I just have a couple more questions that I though you slightly more serious modders ...

Awful awful awful keyboards. They're made from thin brittle plastic, I'm being serious, they are awful.

Out of the three that I owned, 1 had serious ghosting issues and they all three resonated/pinged a LOT.

Any updates on proposed group buy (assuming it reaches GB) case material? Are you still thinking of 3D printing?

Did the price for a machined Alu OTD class case come back astronomical?
