Re: Cherry G81-3077 SAU - a custom build

Very nice!

I need to order some of those GH80-3000 PCBs. They'd look slick with black solder mask.

Re: Making a Secure Keyboard

I read this and the first thing I thought was, IBM TEMPEST keyboard from the 80s. Glad to year Van Eck phreaking is still on everyone's minds. I think you want "trust but verify" here. You're probably dependent on an off the shelf commercial MCU. Give users a way to verify the hardware both vi...

Yeah that PCB strips idea should work easily so long as you don't have any keys taller than 1u. I've had the same idea for making curved profile Cherry boards.

elecplus has had these for a while. They're under appreciated. A standard capsense controller should work well for them. You may need to replace the foam pads. I think neoprene with a mylar sheet glued to it, punched into circles, makes a fine replacement. Key Tronic foam and foil gets a bad rap. Su...

My package arrived last week! I opened it on Christmas morning along with all the other. The industrial brown of the box had its own charm, but, we decided to use a little bit of extra wrapping paper to liven things up. DSCF5340.jpg At the top of the box was this very nice handwritten note. DSCF5349...

You're not the first with this idea. Have a look at HaaTa's KLL Spec. It is an obvious use case of an analog switch. It would be depressing if I would have been the first one :D Is an analog switch only in a spec or is there some prototype and user feedback how well it works as well? E.g. another a...

I agree with the OP. I put Topre 55g domes in my Realforce 104UG HiPro. It feels positively sublime after the conversion. My favorite aftermarket domes are the "55g Korean Domes" you find on eBay for $20. https://www.ebay.com/itm/142648222107 These have a measured force curve: https://plot.ly/~haata...

To be super pedantic, when I refer to bounce I refer to mechanical bounce, which is strictly speaking not the same thing as hysteresis. With bounce there is an amount of time that the switch is in an indeterminate state. With hysteresis there is a gap between the "make" and "break" points.

XMIT Keyboards - December 2018 Update

Mostly I wanted to tear into an Avant Stellar and compare to a Northgate Omnikey. See what parts were made by the same manufacturers and what parts weren't. I missed my chance to buy them new 12 years ago. I remember passing on it because of the Big Ass Enter. I do have an Omnikey Ultra-T that is in...

Pretty much every keyboard does. I just wish there were some other way of obtaining them than at Massdrop's whim. I'd buy 100 sets if I could get volume pricing on them.

To hell with scancodes, keyboard controllers, and wire protocols. True hackers expose the keyboard matrix directly as a bitstream and interpret it in kernel space with a custom device driver.
