Re: XMIT Reviews: Topre Realforce R2 (PFU Limited Edition)

As I said in the review: what puzzles me, is, why Topre mount at all? MX sliders clearly work well. Topre clearly cut brand new molds for the R2 boards. The PBT caps are nice enough that I'd use them on other boards. The MX ecosystem is there. Why stand on tradition? Perhaps the key removal force is...

Re: Great/Interesting Finds

I've seen these, it's a later foam and foil ref of the Sperry/Unisys terminal keyboard. The FTnn or FTnnn sticker on the back is something I see on many foam and foil boards.

Re: XMIT Reviews: Topre Realforce R2 (PFU Limited Edition)

Feel is a tricky thing with the Nopre boards. The new NiZ key switch molds are pretty good, and such a vast improvement on the old ones that it's meaningless to even review those.

Re: XMIT Reviews: Topre Realforce R2 (PFU Limited Edition)

Stay tuned for a Realforce RGB review.

I do have a pretty good cache of "Nopre" boards here, knockoff Chinese/Korean electrostatic capacitive boards using the same principle. I'll do a showdown between them at some point.

Re: Keyboard Review Template: Introducing the KeebScore™

So, I tend to review new-in-box keyboards. As a collector I keep the boards in their original boxes. As a manufacturer I design packaging. So this is important to me. As far as ergonomics go: I appreciate split and ortholinear keyboards but I personally can't use them. Standard ANSI is great for me....

Re: Realforce R2 TKL black on beige keycaps and topre sliders

This is a stock photo, any chance you can post a more up to date one? I'm wondering what your Enter key looks like.

Is there any chance you can measure the stem height on the black sliders since you already have them open?

KEY SWITCHES UDwanEdrb2Y Topre keyboards are electrostatic capacitive keyboards. In this design a conical spring flattens when pressed. When it is flattened, it goes from being a cone to a disk. This alters the capacitance of the region of the PCB in the white circle, which we can sense using a micr...

DISASSEMBLY In order to really review the key switches we need to start disassembling the board. Hold on to your screwdrivers, because in we go! We start off by removing all the key caps using the enclosed key cap puller. This is pretty foolproof: grab the key by the corners and pull straight up. I ...

Plus you'd have to lacquer the boards with bare metal pads I suppose. Hi Sangdrax, good to see you again. This part wasn't clicking with me. Mind explaining what you mean? What happens when you put a conductive metal spring across exposed copper capacitive pads? I'd use Kapton polyimide tape here, ...

Although I actually really dislike the concept, some of the details you’ve laid out are right. [...] A checklist is good. I just don’t like a full on reduction to a single dimensional score. It forces false equivalence. It's primarily a checklist. If it helps enforce some consistency across my revi...

When I acquire a new keyboard, and want to share it with everyone, it's handy to have a consistent way to do so. Enter: the KeebScore™. Super cool! Playing devil's advocate here: how common would a dead DEC VT05 terminal have been back in the '70s? I'm guessing the VT05 was fairly pricey and that many were repaired when they failed. Using RC drivers to transistors is an interesting, if perhaps power hungry, way to do capsense. Some ...
