Indeed. I don’t know whether this comes from the NeXT or classic Apple side of the modern Mac’s parentage. If I ever fix up my SE/30, I should plug in two ADB keyboards and find out!
(Yes, my vintage Macintosh collection really is that small. I’m not nearly as into them as I am keyboards.)

Re: Help with xwhatsit and IBM Model F AT
Xwhatsit’s docs are all neatly laid out here:
https://static.wongcornall.com/ibm-capsense-usb/
Bear in mind he wrote these years before Ellipse’s remakes / the various Xwhatsit-inspired hardware that’s been made without him. Things may have changed a bit in the many years since.

I...don't think this is a thing. It’s a Mac thing. Windows combines all connected keyboards into a single logical device. The Mac does not. Hold Shift on one keyboard and hit 1 on another and a Mac will produce 1, while Windows will produce ! The answer on Mac is to use Karabiner, which works its m...

Cool. What architecture is your Mac build of the Pandrew Util? Is it still just Intel? (I checked: it's Intel only.) I tried building an ARM (Apple Silicon) version of the Util myself, but couldn't get it to work. I’m no coder, so the filthy hacking I was doing to clear all the build errors I gettin...

Re: The mystery of DT's new owner - SOLVED
Here's an interesting example of the apparent ghosts of spam in those post IDs! https://deskthority.net/viewtopic.php?p=514065#514065 As usual for a false positive, the opening post of a thread comes up. No size= in there. Then I see mmm and kbdfr having a curious conversation. Sure enough, there *...

That's more like it! Thanks! I'll zap the bastards. :D Not all of them are malicious. I like this one, for example. Well hidden, Mr. Beardsmore! A lot of the size=1 list seem to be false positives, concentrated on 7bit's threads. I’m not finding any actual size= anything in those posts. Nor this one...

Thanks for that. How about this spam post, which I neutralised but otherwise left intact: https://deskthority.net/viewtopic.php?p=518381#p518381 Its id doesn't show up on your list, and DT's phpBB does indeed hide its hideous little size=1 text. Hit quote on it yourself, to see its contents. I think...

Perhaps your clone could help me with a query. I'd like a list of all DT posts with the text {size=1} in them (but with square brackets instead of curly braces), to track down the remaining edit-spam still festering in the forum. The search function here insists on searching for the word "size" inst...

Re: Beam Spring 104+SSK Reproduction Project! First Batch In Stock, Shipping early next year after New Model F Project
The placement of the Fn layer-switching key is crucial. Long ago , when I was first defining my own layers, I put it on "Caps Lock" as well. Didn't last long, though, as I prefer it on the right hand. The best place for it, for me, is right of Right Shift like on the HHKB. The second best, which I u...

Re: 1986 Model M and a 2023 iPhone!
Yes, a battery powered USB hub ought to do it. Bonus points for installing it inside the Model M’s generous chassis. I did something similar for a while 10 years ago with my XT and iPad over Lightning. Had to use a dongle to make it happen back then, so it’s easier now they’ve finally embraced USB, ...

I’ve no aim to go smaller than 60%. Besides, where’s the Fn layer on that thing? ;) 60% really speaks to me because the alpha block is by far the biggest part of a keyboard, even for 120+ key battleships. Layer it and you’ve got an enormous palette for placing your extended functions. All in a neat,...

Different people like different things. Shocker.
I prefer 60% and do in fact use the Home through Page Down cluster constantly. I like them right there in the alpha block with a function key. I even reach for them, HHKB style, on TKL and full-size boards. Muscle memory wins.
