In 1-2 months we'll be able to buy full steel Model F style assemblies for FSSK/FEXT builds. Basically you'd just take an existing 101 or SSK Model M, pull the caps and stabilizers, open the case, pop in the new assembly, close the case, replace stabilizers and caps, hook up a USB A to B cable, and...

No, the thread can continue to exist and to ruin every good eBay deal, found by anyone, ever. I just hope that there will be an alternative, so that the people who have lost every desire to share anything in that thread can post the good stuff elsewhere. Just, anywhere it's not viewable, searchable,...

For me it's not so much the product I despise but his intention. He knows the topic of mechanical keyboards has been gaining traction in the past few years, especially but not exclusively in the PC Gamer crowd. He has no deep knowledge of the topic which shows in his articles, hence why he comes her...

Very nice. Adding a custom controller is something I wanted to do until idollar's FSSK and Ellipse's Model F keyboards surfaced. Which incidentally should be perfect for you if you prefer F but the form factor of the SSK. Have you taken a look? https://deskthority.net/workshop-f7/f-ssk-t10744.html I...

Does the FTC know about your illegal operation? You're required by law to disclose that Das paid you for a fake-review. Or are you going to claim the "native advertising" route? Why the fuck would he care? Why do a lot of Americans assume they are the centre of the universe and everyone must abide ...

Exactly. I wouldn't have got into the hobby, recently spending almost 250€ on a Whitefox recently, if it hadn't been possible to start much cheaper. Five years ago I was doing some research online and was about to drop about 60 bucks on some "high quality" membrane keyboard when I found out that key...

Shameless plug indeed, reflinks included. Sorry, I will not read more from your blog. One reason is that it's plastered with reflinks (get a job, damn). Another reason is statements that are inaccurate or incorrect, or completely subjective, including: a 4° incline, offering a nice ergonomic typing ...

The plastic and metal sandwich of a regular Model M or SSK cannot be opened by default, this has do be done during a nut & bolt or screwmod. But you can take out the stabilizers without opening the whole assembly using two q-tips. With the new M and SSK assemblys, those will already have screws to o...

Ooh, this is quite an interesting topic that I'd nearly missed: definitely interested in an SSK or two if they're easy enough to adapt to ISO layout. They should be, being able to open the barrel frame means being able to move flippers and stabilizers around, and even adapt the layout to your prefe...

OleVoip, how do you apply this layout in the real world?

From what I have read, your layout would be a QWERTY ISO layout but with a bit-paired number row of symbols, more similar to ISO-DE symbols?
That is, !,",#,$ and so forth, and ( ) on 8 and 9?

matt128, yes, because Cherry switches are .65€ a pop usually and even those not into brown switches will take them off your hands if the price is right. Since you're in Australia though, you should probably try to sell locally, or else kill a good price with high shipping costs.

Yeah I did. There was a piece where some programmer advocated against swapping Caps and CTRL, he argued that it's more ergonomic to hit CTRL with your palm. You do the same with Shift, not a bad idea honestly but I just can't get used to it :) Edit: Ah found it: http://ergoemacs.org/emacs/swap_CapsL...

I use Windows and I still prefer having both Winkeys.

I need the left one for running Win+E, Win+X, Win+R and Win+TAB.
And the right one for locking the machine (Win+L) at work with one hand.

I'm a fan of the menu/apps key and since I use it often I've mapped it to FN+Tab.
