Wow nice find Seebart. I remember Haata's[0] and yours looks to be in very nice condition. Looks like an incredibly well built keyboard, I suppose it should be for the fortune it probably cost. If only the keycaps didn't seem so prone to yellow strangely. Thanks for sharing! [0] https://www.flickr.c...

If the switches are plate mounted you will still have to pop them out of the plate, but otherwise they shouldn't have anything holding them into the PCB if they have been properly desoldered. Just wobble the switch back and forth, or try and move the pins. It will be pretty obvious if it is free of ...

To think that these are old bank keyboards, and they weren't immediately dumped into a grinder is impressive.

But either way this is insane, nice work!

From the look of it I would recommend upgrading your iron before attempting to finish desoldering all of yhose switches. It sounds like your iron is not getting hot enough, nor holding a consistent temperature. That’s going to make desoldering a pain in the ass, especially with 60+ switches. Also it...

Pyrelink's State of the Collection - 2018

Hello again Deskthority, long time no speak. It has been a good ~2 years since I have truly been active in the community or even thought about keyboards further than the fact that I was still constantly typing on one. I guess as life gets busier you get less time for hobbies and eventually the passi...

Now sure why it was so much better with those than the ABS keycaps. I am hardly knowledgeable in this subject, but I feel like I remember reading somewhere that plastic is softer and porous so it winds up absorbing more of the ultrasonic activity, compared to say metals. In more industrial applicat...

Nice board Scott. While Futaba Complicated Linears are pretty far from a favorite switch of mine, I don't totally detest them

Besides the case yellowing, it looks like it was a very well maintained specimen. Nice pickup!

I was abducted by Zilents back in 1986, and there were DEFINITELY pandas on the observation tables suspended in front of me, but due to the Zilent/Zeal war there was never any silence.

Nice restore, j0d1. I also learned the hard way regarding the plastic stabilizers. After being informed of the fact that they were actually removable, I think I broke 2 or 3. Managed to salvage them with a few drops of epoxy or gorilla glue, something like that.

I would say that the sound might be a tad bit lighter with these caps as opposed to the nice PBT of the AEK2 caps. As you would expect, these feel just about the same as any SP DCS keyset, so nothing crazy. The AEK2 caps are a pretty thick PBT and really do feel nice to type on, but they have that q...

I like to live on the bleeding edge of Model F Cap Sense technology, so CommonSense gets my vote as well. I currently have been using my Xwhatsit Model F's with 3 layers (mainly just using 2 honestly) and I don't use any keyboard macros. So I vote indifferent to macros.

In most of my plastic case'd keyboards I add some drawer liner into the bottom shell, under the PCB. I have some in my HHKB even. Very nice work XMIT. I was always under the impression that a decent ultrasonic was closer to the $4-500 range, but very promising that you are getting good results out of just a $90 unit.
