Re: [WTB] [US] SKCM NEON GREEN ALPS
Let's quickly clarify something. keebmeup renamed himself on eBay to zrrion, so the boards you are thinking are being sold from a trusted community member are actually from keebmeup (the well known market manipulating scammer) Unbelievable, but you are correct, and that explains everything. https:/...

Re: [WTB] [US] SKCM NEON GREEN ALPS
Just curious what you meant by it having browns. Are all the keys brown and he put in a green alps to make people think it had all neons? I saw he posted one pic showing a presumably neon green alps: I think that seller used to be called keebmeup and thought it was strange they changed their userna...

Re: engr's Alps (and more) collection
I think I have an Alps problem... The only problem I can see is that you haven't tried them all. When I worked at a recycler in a former life I got to try (for free) every keyboard that came through the door. And I got to keep whichever ones I wanted, at our cost, which was usually nothing. Dangero...

Well...I connected my 101I to a real DOS computer (6.22) and the message stays on the screen: omnikey rev 1.02 09/27/89\ In addition I hit F7 by accident instead of F8 and got this message: this is a northgate computer sys. copyrighted keyboard program.\ if this keyboard is not a northgate computer ...

Thanks for sharing your older 101I thread, lots of info I didn't know that was discussed there especially regarding vendors and the vendor numbers, all this time I assumed the gen2 101s still used Focus PCBs but clearly that's not the case. Interesting too that they started out with a plastic base ...

How did you stabilize the spacebar? When I tried Matias stabs, the spacebar became wobbly in yaw direction. There are some guide posts out there that poke into an MX mount. I added one to a Tai Hao spacebar by gluing a carved down MX cap to the bottom side. You have to get it exactly right, locatio...

Only noticeable difference I can feel between the two is the larger ...

Hi all, I've been into vintage keyboards for a few years now but only decided now to finally go from being one of the many unregistered guests to a being a member. Re: Alps Appreciation
I have two AT101Ws. I completely agree that they are quality keyboards, but I'm less than enthusiastic about the switches. The black Alps switches in one of mine are terrible, and not from use or contamination since the keyboard is nearly new. The other one was swapped to Matias switches before I go...

This Datadesk Switchboard has an interesting description on the back of the box saying that they had additional modules, like 24 programmable macro keys, a trackball, and more: "Datadesk's Module Development Team is at work on still more input devices - a digitizer tablet, a numeric keypad especial...

I wouldn't go quite that far but I see your point. Bob Tibbetts used to say there was no difference between white and blue Alps and people were just deluding themselves into thinking there was. Maybe he was right, although I personally think I can hear and feel the difference. Could be a placebo ef...

Nice! Are you sure it’s not SKBM? Mine also came in and didn’t have slits on the top housing. Below are some pics. Overall it’s a nice Pine complicated (SKCM) Alps had slits. Bamboo complicated (SKCM) Alps had no slits. Simplified (SKBM) Alps had bigger mold numbering (and no switchplates). And the...

I think ultimately the solution is to find a vendor that can do this type of plastic printing and do a group buy for a bunch of overlays and function key labels. Unfortunately I don't have a Tap Plastics store near me. I would work on it but I don't have either spare time or money right now. Either...

What I'd really, really like is a good source for the mylar/plastic function key label. Bob Tibbetts had those made up, but his were in sections, four F-keys per section. Do you have a Tap Plastics near you? We had some mylar badges made up by them for a product at work, and I'll bet they could do ...

Finally finished the 101. Yes, it's now "badgeless." The 101 has a sticker instead of a plastic badge. It's now pretty much destroyed. Another Northgate missing link? This one shoots to hell a couple previous ideas about the 101 models and the model numbers in general. https://www.ebay.com/itm/115840331977 This is a 101N model (Gen2) with BAE, but with some weirdnesses. First, the badge says "101". This makes four distinct Northgat...

Glad that's the case! That engine does not look fun to change plugs on. AC vent location is perfect too - you can just blow it right up your shorts to cool the essentials. Not at all, the Chevy cowling leaves about 6 inches on each side, easy access from above or below. Even my gorilla paws fit dow...

Driving long distance on a highway at cuck speed will usually give you incredible fuel economy while city traffic where a lot of the fuel is used to wear down brake pads is terrible for fuel economy. If these old american V8 engines were fuel efficient by any modern standard, people wouldn‘t be con...

Re: a few stickers for my car
My 60 year old Ford van with a 5 liter carbureted V8 engine got 21 MPG (~11L if I did the math correctly) on a 3000 mile road trip recentlty. How is it that newer, fuel injected engines can get such crappy mileage?
