Re: First mechanical keyboard questions
I’m also becoming addicted to PBT (to touch only. Ingestion may follow if it comes on worse). Maybe I have moister than average fingertips (I’m not volunteering to collect that data) but the dryness of the caps is pleasant. Also gives a good sound, particularly in combination with dampened Alps: a g...

How does that Vale w/white Alps sound? I've only seen a couple in the US and missed the auctions.
I'm going to borrow a decent microphone from work next week so I'll send you a recording.

[WTS] Christmas Megasale! Alps, Topre, Cherry, Buckling Springs and more
Right, the time has come… I have no more space. All keyboards are fully working and pictures of each corresponding to the board's number in the following list can be found here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/4hezRmjfr5HnJYNK8 Most of these I'm selling for the same or less than they cost me, so hopefully...

I have a 5100 but not the sort you're looking for - BTC, not IBM. It'd save you a few thousand though!

On the returns section of the listing it says “Accepted within 30 days” so hopefully the seller will let you cancel.

Got to start somewhere! I have the same board and the domes are pretty snappy. Are you happy with it not being ANSI though? I’ve still got those Acers if you’re interested

Re: Tai Hao Softkey f-21s
That’s the one I’m getting - looks nifty. Good return policy too if it doesn’t fit the bill. Then it, the Drakware adapter and a power bank can go snugly together into a little box with slots and into an earmarked compartment in my pannier, or baekcycle bag as I’ll have to rename it.

PS I can’t find any Cherry PBT caps except on G83 rubber dome boards. Does anyone have some MX-mount Sublimationsdruck goodness?

Re: Definition of "Tactile"
Feel matters too, aye. Including the caps: big fan of cylindrical PBT, me; especially NMB and Topre's profiles, over IBMs and whoever came up with "OEM profile." Cherry profile PBT is a real treat, too. Caps like that can make the difference. Not as much as switches, but they're in the running. Muc...

Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread
Agreed. Plus I have a BTC 5100 foam and foil which feels really good to me - wasn’t expecting it to with all the anti F&F feeling. I’d make the drive myself- maybe. 2 hours round trip or each way, that’s the question.

Re: Definition of "Tactile"
I agree with you about buckling springs - and there’s the additional satisfaction of the simplicity of the design (as in, small number of parts - not saying it was an easy design to come up with or manufacture). However, when just typing normally, as opposed to pressing individual keys slowly or rep...

Re: Tai Hao Softkey f-21s
Thanks for all this - I have the same Tai-Hao clicker board which I might try some of this with. To be frank, though, it’ll be hard to beat stock dampened Alps for me: I’ve discovered them quite late, having avoided AEKs for a long time, but my god they’re nice! Feel and sound together. Worth the AD...

Re: My ibm keyboards
I love this one trying to sneak in with the big boys. “I’m an IBM too, you know!” he chirrups in his barely audible rubber dome pitter-patter, before the others drown him out under a hail of metallic clicks and pings.

Re: Sound difference between Blue and White Alps and modern switches!!
Agreed - thanks for the video. The dB readings are all pretty close: the difference, as ollir mentioned, is the frequencies. The switches in your video got progressively higher pitched: blue alps was lowest, then white alps, then Cherry Blue and the Clickbars (feasible 60s band). It's all about the ...

Dell Quietkeys live up to their name and have pretty nice-feeling rubber domes if you get a chance to pick one up. - to clarify, this was a suggestion based on assumptions about your budget from the low-priced rubber dome HP you posted originally! Re: Got a boxed BTC 5139
A nice keyboard! I also like BTC dome with sliders, and the big ass enter combined with double unit backspace is nice too. The Wyse-like black bar round the lock lights is a smart finish. The keycaps look the same as on a BTC5100C: a good rough texture. My only wish would be for darker printing of t...

Re: Old Label Dell AT 101 USB problem
Does it behave like this even when you plug it in and then turn the computer on? One of my old AT101s can be pretty picky about when it’s plugged in and unplugged, and if it’s not happy it will spam a key too, usually the Scroll Lock or whatever key it is that does Lower Brightness on a mac, plungin...

Re: KPT (or possibly clone) comparison
Speaking of KPTs, I just saw this Costar board with blackNblack ones. (? I think) https://www.ebay.com/itm/125012320015? Previously I think these boards were known to have Alps. (?again - I think?) I’ve been watching this one since it was listed: a dangerously good-looking keyboard. It’s going to p...

Seconded. A big reason I bid on this was to investigate the undocumented switches and board. Glad it ended up with one of us!
