Re: Jackpot

Maybe I missed it, but I don't see what type of foam it actually is cut from. ? In the ebay ad? Ummmm. Black foam? I'll go with that. Black foam. Slightly more seriously, the ebay ad doesn't have the foam type listed. It felt like art foam and was easily twice as thick as what I pulled out of the X...

Who’s forcing you to use this particular (and definitively supreme) little keyboard again? Your dumptruck is still right there. Or did you trash it prematurely? ;) Nobody's forcing me to do anything ... yet. It's not like Cherry's going to come out to Arizona and force me to use MX browns or someth...

Re: Jackpot

I've got at least one Tinkerboy converter and I'll confirm that it's good. 1. If you're going to restore it, there are a lot of great articles here. I would highly recommend any one that specifies a lot of clamps. These work great. 2. I failed cutting straight lines in kindergarten, so my attempts t...

Re: Great/Interesting Finds

MX mounts on the one I have. There might be some size issues with some of the keys, but if you get one of those 122+ keycaps sets, like this one from Tai-Hao , I'd bet that you'd get enough that'd fit. Tai-Hao also can help to fit the appropriate keys, if you contact them. I might have some caps, so...

Re: Model F BigFoot faulty board.

I haven't converted one myself, but I always thought the easiest route would be to use an FXT capsense pcb instead which is easier to convert. If the person that has sold a bazillion Soarer's converters for many different configurations makes a suggestion, it's probably good to listen :) (So, oriha...

Re: Great/Interesting Finds

My HHKB, open box, was around $170, IIRC. My Realforce R2, a return to MechanicalKeyboards.com, was cheaper, also IIRC. Both bought this year, also also IIRC. My memory IS faulty :D. I have a Gateway AnyKey without caps, cord (I do have the cord somewhere), or stabilizers. There may be other problem...

Well, for me, a non-typist, I'm relatively happy with where my shift keys are ... but I almost always use the left shift and I almost always actuate it with my third (ring) finger. I use various fingers for the modifier keys. Never a pinky, tho.

Re: hellothere vs HHKB

My "mouse" is an X-Keys (or whatever they're named this week) trackball. It's about 70% the length of the HHKB and about 125% the width. Doesn't weigh quite as much as the HHKB, though. I'm starting to really not enjoy not having dedicated arrow keys. I'm also questioning why Topre decided to not ha...

You might want to check out https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=48950.0, especially the posts that mention using the jumper pins. I would like to know what the model number of the keyboard. Waay too long. Didn't read: * I'd really like it if this was a TKL. * I really don't care for the sound. * It feels pretty nice, but my Realforce R2 PFU is much better. * So is my nopre. * It still is a pretty good keyboard and comes in at #5 of the keyboards I currently own. =========== Profession...

The keyboard is a Northgate OmniKey 102. This one had a blue label with block lettering. August 1989. Serial 01968x. Has a ribbon cable. Picture taken with a potato. Hammered black paint from Behr. Matte clear coat.

Re: Carbonated non-alcoholic drinks of choice?

I noticed a previous post about Ramune. I second that choice. I like both the strawberry and orange flavors. It's way too expensive in the US, at about $1.80 a bottle, so I get them when they're on sale. They're sold in the grocery stores out here. I really like A&W root beer from draft, which is at...

Re: Looking for a recommendation on a macro pad

I know it's moot, at this point, but you could just get an ortholinear keyboard and use that as a macro pad. You'd need a Hasu USB to USB converter. I han't thought about that. That's actually a pretty good idea. That would make a huge numpad with a lot of options. Not sure whether you missed my po...

I don't think Cherry M7 or M9. Those have "Cherry" on the upper housing and the switches in the keyboard(s) above don't. Looks close to Mitsumi Standard Mechanical.

I wish I had the electronics know-how to build these kind of things. The instructions are pretty straight-forward. . Pretty sure this has everything you want and a bit more. I'm not 100% sure. Depends on if, "The shaft body can be replaced, and the high-quality shaft seat of Kaihua is used. The replacement of the shaft body does not require welding, and it is compatible with most MX mechanical shafts," means "hot-...

My preference is to use a Soarer's Converter. But that only works with PS/2 boards. I don't know where you heard that. My old project looks embarrassingly crude, but it works fine. https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=58941.msg1348717#msg1348717 I, quite literally, finished building something exact...

Drakware. I've used at least a half dozen of them. They're Mitsumi Standard Mechanical tactile switches, not Mitsumi Miniature Mechanical, which is the one a lot of people don't like. I have no opinion on the Minis. I've had two with the Standard Mechanicals. They feel reminiscent of salmon Alps, bu...

Re: Are Alps keycaps harder to take off than Cherry keycaps?

I re-wrote my original reply. You kind of imply that you're talking about brands. That might not be the way to go. MX is a mount. There are a bunch of different switches not named "Cherry" that use this mount. A random modern switch would be Gateron. A random vintage switch would be Futaba MA. There...
