Re: Jackpot
ebay comes to your rescue with pre-made foam for about $20 US , sans shipping (ships from Canada). I never had any trouble cutting foam (I put the sheet under the plate when I spray paint it, so I have the exact location of the holes) but this looks like a clean (if pricey) product. Maybe I missed ...

Re: German Model F AT Resurrection Journey
Wouldnt sandblasting the barrel plate potentially risk the plastic stabilizer rivets? The stabilizer tabs can be removed with a small flat head screwdriver and replaced with a larger one. Use a small screwdriver (smaller than the size of the hole) to push them gently but firmly out from behind and ...

Re: IBM AT USB conversion
Actually, Soarer originally wrote his firmware for the AT, then expanded it. https://deskthority.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2510&p=508038&hilit=xt%2Fat+converter#p508038 That said, I have used simple adapters in your situation with no problems. Re: Trying to work with an eBay seller
US Post Office has "flat rate" parcels that go domestically for $10-20 and you can often find one that will suit you if the item is a moderate size. They are considered "priority" and usually delivery pretty quickly. Outbound international is a VERY different story and the "large flat rate game boar...

Re: Trying to work with an eBay seller
I agreed to buy it if the seller charged a reasonable amount for shipping. That is always a losing proposition. These days, I do my best to get an accurate measure of the size and weight of the final package, and let ebay do its own "calculate shipping" process for the location (wherever that ends ...

Re: Retyping Books
My mother had a high school friend who became a writer. After he graduated from school, he went to a respected "writers' colony" where the headmistress made them spend a year copying major contemporary novels to "get the feel" of what it is like to write a great book. This was in the early 1950s and...

Re: Trying to work with an eBay seller
How are you “saving them the PayPal fees,” then? Maybe I am not understanding, but ebay fees are roughly 10% and Paypal fees are roughly 3% - depending .... Taking the sale local and paying cash still obligates the seller to ebay for the transaction fee but a cash payment avoids the Paypal fee. If ...

Re: Trying to work with an eBay seller
A seller who is not familiar with keyboard switches and caps might be afraid that he would break one of the parts and render his item worthless, or nearly so.
A seller who understands the keyboard market knows that a buyer wants to see the switch.

Re: Carbonated non-alcoholic drinks of choice?
For many years tonic water was my soft drink of choice, until I pretty much gave up ordinary soft drinks because of the ludicrous amount of sugar. "Diet" tonic is an abomination, artificial sweeteners and quinine are a blasphemous combination. These days I do enjoy seltzer water, but that is hardly ...

I, quite literally, finished building something exactly like that about 10 minutes ago, only it uses TMK. Yours looks better
Subsequently I built a nicer one, still using parts from the electrical department at Home Depot.

My preference is to use a Soarer's Converter. But that only works with PS/2 boards.

even shifting that locally would cost more than $130. Envy y'all, so I do. Shipping is escalating fast over here too, and international shipping outbound from the US is crazy. I could see the 2 big pieces in a large box going ground for $80 and $50 would probably ship a smaller box with the rest of...

That is cool! I would think that a nylon case would be a very good idea.
The back is butt-ugly but that doesn't matter.
But the F AT is where it would really be worthwhile.
