I've been poking my working F with an oscilloscope this morning and I'm just writing another post about it.
At least with the stock controller methodology I'm pretty sure it will make it easier to detect. The detection window is pretty short compared to the rest of the duty-cycle.

Re: Let's create the FSSK !
I thought the F was .8mm?idollar wrote:Also notice that the pcb will be 0.4 mm. This means that the keyboard will be approx 0.2 mm higher than normal.
I will try a plate with this thick and test the complete set in the case before ordering.
That will double your capacitance. Is that intentional?

Okay, so there is an actual need then other than my late-night thoughts. YOu may be able to do some kind of auto-calibration power key. I'll order some a2d this evening from element14 and try to write some code tomorrow evening. I'll use an old F122 as my test board. IC I'm looking at is only availa...

Well I'm glad to hear it's not too far out of left field and cost was really what I thought was the driving factor too, especially given how horrifically expensive ROM was in those days. Now you can get an 8 channel 8 bit A2D for under $2. We could still have auto-calibration I think if we were to a...

Some 3am thoughts, they may not be completely coherent :-) Back with God was typing "Let there be light" on his beamspring and Adam and Eve invented the F and Cain Killed Abel for inventing the rubber dome, analog covered the Earth. A fair amount of complexity of the boards that we have are due to t...

Are you wanting to put the design in 0.62"? Remember, you don't want your circuitry inside the metal sandwich.idollar wrote:And also ... it managed to import the design into Diptrace
We are getting there.
Mainly because the solder joints won't survive being curved.

I'm happy to share the files with the disclaimer to assume they're junk until I get my prototype back and tested as working. smallerboard.png 1.05" x 2.9". I'm curious as to your aversion to diptrace. It does run on Linux after all. fwiw, I have a completed schematic for the xwhatsit controller and I will tell you that validating that by hand between kicad and diptrace was hell. I'm about a quarter of the way through routing it on a smaller board swapp...

Re: Brand New F62 Kishsaver / F77 Industrial Model F's made this year
No worries __red__! Despite this being a $70,000+ project judging by current interest (220+ preorders), this is considered a really small project for factories and everything needs to be ordered in one or two batches to get the price down to $325 per keyboard. Tooling involves the effort to set up ...

Re: Calling all PCB Designers! (For the brand new Model F project)
Do you want me to place it on your existing pcb design for the keyboard or separate so you can prototype with it? Did you end up using diptrace to design your board thus far? Unless you have a really compelling reason to keep it on the same board I would strongly recommend having them separate. Boar...

I'm curious, why only a two month window? Surely the expense and effort is mostly in the tooling?
Forgive me if I glossed over something previously discussed.

Model F-122 at work with the layout a bastardized combination of iso and ansi. Model M-122 by one of the off-label brands (BOS? iirc) at home. F is at work because that's where I do most of my keyboard work. Should you worry about F or M noise in an open plan office? Nope, you spread the love. There...

Great project here wcass - I'm excited to see how it goes. Random questions if I may: i) Gold plated or copper? ii) Do you have a "punched" acrylic sheet or something between your top layer and your PCB so that gravity doesn't activate all the keys for you? As you're making your board out of acrylic...

Some example PCBs there.
I'm actually building up an ansi IBM Model M layout PCB for my own experimentation. After I've finished routing it I'll post it here to let you know.

However, since I wrote the firmware I was able to cheat and reverse the rows and columns.
Nice work though... Seriously.
