Re: Kinda curious: What makes Alps so sensitive to dust?

That would be nice and would have made total sense, if waxboiling worked. But, it just doesn't. If, after this whole charade of constant retracting of the waxboiling effects and its results, by the "wax man" himself (jezuuz) and especially after the comprehensive test done by Chyrosran22, which comp...

Re: Kinda curious: What makes Alps so sensitive to dust?

Well, according to my tests, dust is not a big factor in the deterioration of ALPS. The most important one is the oxidation of the plastics (and the metal leafs too, but in a lesser degree), in plain words, the plastics age and get corroded and their surfaces turn from smooth to harsher and harsher....

Soarer's PS/2 to USB [EU]

I am looking for an Orihalcon PS/2 to USB converter. There aren't any left in stock so I am look if anyone in the EU has a spare one that wouldn't mind to depart with. I willing to pay the full price + shipping.

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!

Yes the OG lube ingredients are Lithium Soap thickener, Paraffin Oil (long chained Hydrocarbons really) plus some petroleum solvents, which I guess were used for making it in to a spray. The unknowns are: 1) what kind of hydrocarbons i.e. long chained but how long? Branched? And if yes then how? 2) ...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!

Make sure you boil the switches for at least 24 hours, constantly stirring them while saying a prayer to God, or Gods or whatever you believe in. After the 24 hour boiling is done, if they are still dirty (they will be), just use plain dish-soap and water to clean them. And there's no need for wax, ...

Re: ALPS/ALPS-like switch weaknesses

I have had three Alps boards (black, orange, and white) - I don't remember the black binding, but don't own it anymore. I still have the white and orange boards. Neither of them have ever had binding issues. In fact, my Model M's "bind" slightly more on corners. It's worth noting that I have never ...

Re: ALPS/ALPS-like switch weaknesses

Well, all of those reasons that you mentioned, are conflated with each other. You can't just separate the unprofitability of ALPS, from their notorious inconsistency. That must have played a role in how much they were valued by those 'other markets', where ruggedness probably was/is a strict require...

Re: ALPS/ALPS-like switch weaknesses

I would say that the number one issue with ALPS is definitely the inconsistency. There is not a single one ALPS board that I own which isn't almost entirely different in every aspect with the others. From feeling, to smoothness,.to sound and to issues. This means that when someone talks about their ...

Re: Future of DT

The name is snappy, but the same objection could be levelled at it as at Travelodge. Trave-lodge: what’s a Trave? Travel-odge: what’s an odge? But Travellodge is too ugly, albeit with Welsh overtones (“I’m stay ing at the lo cal traah -veh-gggghhho-jah!”) Nexthority isn’t quite so bad because “thor...

Re: PS/2 old keyboards "slow" simultaneous presses

Thanks, I am already in search for an Orihalcon one, but they seem to be out of stock in ebay and Orihalcon sadly didn't respond to a pm that I sent to him here. So, I'm actually trying and I surely will get one or two, somehow. I don't want to lose time in building one, I want one for the work plac...

Re: PS/2 old keyboards "slow" simultaneous presses

I have a piece of shit active ps2-usb converter and I also have a pc that has a real PS/2. For sure, the converter is indeed slower (and worse in many other ways too) but the ps/2 also results in a sequential sending/displaying. Let me get more precise: I press 10 keys simultaneously with both hands...

Re: PS/2 old keyboards "slow" simultaneous presses

I'm not certain if you understood what I meant. I am not talking about NKRO, all of them have NKRO. I'm talking about the rate of the characters been send to the computer. I guess I have to make a screencapture video to demonstrate it.

PS/2 old keyboards "slow" simultaneous presses

Hi all, With all my vintage boards that are either PS/2 (or using a passive AT DIN -> PS/2) I have this minor issue that I want to see if I can do anything about it: When I press multiple keys at the same time the characters are sent one after the other, "slow enough" that I can see some of them app...

For how long did you boil them? they don't seem to get cleaned thoroughly, maybe you should let them boil for longer?

remember to always wipe the side of the stem that the click leaf is in contact. it should not have any wax, it must be squickly clean., or else the horrible upstroke click will happen.

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!

After trying with a kettle heater, I didn't get the desired results I expected, so I decided to give in and I got a small gas camping stove. 😅 Now here are my first findings (and not final yet), which are interesting. I boiled and waxboiled 3-4 blue switches but they, sadly, didn't have a sufficient...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!

As for why boiling works, I suspect it has to do with the rough surface of the plastic being a good surface for the formation of bubbles, and these bubbles do a good job at getting the part clean in the same way that an ultrasonic cleaner causes small bubbles to form that contribute to a cleaning a...

I also had this concern in the beginning but after some research, I found that that paraffin wax is not naturally made and does not have the same corrosive effects as other natural waxes like bees wax, olive oil and coconut oil, and it is a commonly used lubricant in many applications especially on...

for example, i legit find it ironic that you're worried about deforming switches by boiling them when you are taking a dremel to yours. This exactly.
I'm actually pretty happy to hear of this boiling technique. However I do want to understand it more in detail and also some things are not really making sense to me, so I point them out.
Try it for yourself then.
Of course I will, right when I get home!
