Re: Model M issues (some keys not working)
Before even opening the assembly, try cleaning the oxidation from the membrane contacts that go into the controller. Gentle rubbing (along the length of the contacts) with a pencil eraser should work.

iii.) If I want to do the paper mod on the orange ALPS, where does this little flap of the L-shaped folded piece of paper go? Does the tactile leaf "sit" on the folded piece of paper? But then it will be lifted a little bit, am I right? Might this cause any kind of problem? For the paper mod you on...

Model F barrels / flippers
Hello everyone,
I'm looking to buy 5 flippers and 3 barrels for a Model F, either type (pin or buttress) will do. (It's to convert an AT to ISO with a Model M spacebar)
Thanks,
Darkshado

Re: Why do you need foam on your model f?
I'm going to assume the hammering apart and hammering back into place is what's possibly bending the metal and introducing an inconsistent feel to the board. It's driving me nuts. It wasn't as bad on the first AT I got, where I bent the tabs back instead of hammering the plates apart. My current me...

Wow that's quite the keycap set you got there also nice ISO mod have not seen more than one other ISO AT. I also like the TKL layout you have but I could never get used to having half my f keys on one side and the rest on the other side also I saw you got a model m space bar installed my I ask how ...

Lately it's been the F AT for me too, since it has the closest layout to a standard TKL once modded.

Re: Model M appreciation
So If i use the AT to PS/2 and then the PS/2 to USB i will be able to hot plug the board ? Yes, USB supports it, AT doesn't, so plug your adapter last and voilà! Hot plug. (Hot plugging AT or PS/2 reportedly fries electronics, haven't had that bad luck but I recall having to restart the computer if...

Edit: i also hope to be upgrading my pc soon to the asus strix b450-f board and that comes with a ps/2 port so i wont need a long line of converters 8-) I'd rather use a converter anyway since it enables hot-plugging via USB; also there's been reports of modern PS/2 ports not providing enough curre...

Re: G83-3000 "MX-ification"?
Are the profiles the same? Does the outer diameter of the G83 stem fit in the housing of an MX switch? In any case, your info confirms my suspicion that it's well into "must be proficient in CAD and have access to a 3D printer" territory, which isn't my situation at the moment. What about the case? ...

I found a Cherry G83-3077-SBU while browsing classifieds and I wonder... (Winkeyless, US ANSI, NCR-branded beige case, assuming PBT dye-sub judging by the S letter code) How stupid / crazy / labor-intensive / feasible is modding the caps to fit on an MX board ? Relatedly, is this case compatible wit...

Re: Skaters converter vs xwhatsit for model f.
Soarer's and TMK-based converters take the output scancodes (XT: Set 1, AT: Set 2, terminal boards: Set 3) from the original controller and convert them to USB. Xwhatsit and DMA's CommonSense are replacement controllers which scan the keyboard's capacitive pads for keypresses and speak USB "natively...

Get a rotary tool if you don't already have one. Use proper protective equipment, especially safety goggles. Flying metal shards and eyeballs are not good friends. Once you've sanded down your plate (assuming you plan in re-painting it) permanent marker can be used to mark your cuts. It can be clean...

Model F AT - The "Clippy" Mod
Hello everyone, I tried a few different approaches to stabilize the Model M spacebar installed on my extra modifiers modded F AT but never got it quite right: thickness would interfere with key travel, washers wouldn't stay down, no yaw control, bad adhesion between epoxy and plastic, etc. Recently,...

Dasher is certainly an option and could also be used with head or eye tracking mice. Re: Any examles of throttle / flightstick being used as a main keyboard - am considering the feasability.
Assuming a Windows-based system, a quick search for "joystick input to keyboard" shows two dedicated commercial/shareware options, JoyToKey and Keysticks; AutoHotKey has a tutorial on the topic (https://autohotkey.com/docs/misc/RemapJoystick.htm) which would be free and potentially much more powerfu...
Re: ISO users
The fact that apart from Unicomp *no one* makes stock keysets in my usual layout has put a significant damper on any set collecting ambitions. Also: a preference for PBT because I make ABS shine in no time, and costs because already expensive MX or Alps ISO sets would be imports. Sure, I touch type,...
