Beam plates would be cheaper? They're at least twice as thick as cap plates. Why cheaper? They're flat plates, right? I haven't owned a beamspring myself. Just too expensive each time I've seen one. I think it's a big labor cost to roll the MF plates. Yeah they're flat and the holes are simple. Gue...

I guess now is as good a time as any to mention that I'm building an ergonomic split beamspring keyboard... Love... and look forward to seeing. Glad you mentioned. Our conversations have been focused around targeting the switch itself. Since we are going to need to be making it from scratch (nothin...

I'm wondering if it might be of use for the mounting holes on this backplate to be oval (long horiz axis) so the assembly could be shifted slightly in the case and allow for case variations. We actually don't use the back plate oval holes at all. Those pegs in the bottom shell have always been the ...

Well guess what! It appears earlier Model Ms had a different orentation for the barrels (not sure if this is due to the barrel mold or the chassis itself since both are slightly different from later revisions). I don't know that you can pin this to early/late models, factory variation, or something...

A while back (maybe on GH) there was a tool made from a 1/4" pop rivet that looked really sturdy, and could also be used for pivot plates in situ as a better alternative to the "Chopstick of Death" method. Unfortunately, I have never been able to find it again. This is the tool I use for the chopst...

I suppose the original font was Helvetica? IBM used a (then common) Helvetica variant that featured balanced rounding and slim text. Why do people fuck with perfectly good fonts . IBM was flipping HUGE on user experience on all fronts back in the day. If they screwed with it I'd bet they had studie...

I would probably opt for Torx socket bits. Usually those combination sets that people already have include a hand driver (think screwdriver for sockets). You would be able to apply additional torque to things in the future that need it via the ratchet, and they store well. The only downside would b...
