Re: What is the state of the art in one-handed keyboards?
I would buy one if it was priced more reasonable.

Here's the mirrorboard http://blog.xkcd.com/2007/08/14/mirrorboard-a-one-handed-keyboard-layout-for-the-lazy/ And the Matias half keyboard http://www.matias.ca/halfkeyboard/ I made an Autohotkey variant of the xkcd mirrorboard for windows a long time ago and it actually works pretty well. I really r...

Changes I did/am working on: - [done] adding screw holes - [done] moving the usb connector to the top of the PCB to reduce height - [discarded] maaaybe using a micro instead of a mini usb - [done] adding an ESD chip to protect the controller from static discharges - adding one or two leds to indicat...

And there lies the problem. If I would be 100% certain that I will finish this project in one go I would have asked for money already so people could directly fund the prototyping and get a full THKB in the end. But... I just don't feel good doing that if I happen to take another break (even though ...

STOP! Prototype PCBs gone for now! ========= I regret ordering so many PCBs so I'm going to sell some of them to help fund the next revision  You can get a DXF file for the mount plate and there is plenty of spots where you could drill a hole for a screw to mount it onto something without ...

Well, actually, among the components that I ordered for this were a couple of different Micro USB connectors that I'm considering for the (hopefully) final PCB. But now I know the usb stuff and switch matrix is working so there is not much that can go wrong from here on. However, the journey doesn't...

It's alive! Everything is working as expected and I am typing on it right now. To make it work I had to apply some more changes to the switch matrix in TMK that I forgot about (it was to make the routing easier)  I didn't want to pull the keys from the old prototype nor did I have enough...

Yeah just like the Teensy. I already updated my matrix.c, built the latest tmk and flashed it. So far with a jumper wire everything seems to work. I can confirm it in a few minutes - I just soldered the first switch  Decided not to waste use my (last) spare mount plate of the old prototype ...

Looking good! I flashed the fuses so it's now using the external 16MHz oscillator. Flashing the keyboard firmware works both using the ISP pins and a usb bootloader so from now on I can flash via USB. Now for the diodes and some switches :D Boring stuff: http://i.imgur.com/kkoSImp.jpg [ 1575.126033]...

Thanks guys! Those are the posts that keep me motivated  I really want to finish this keyboard eventually - to the point that I have at least one case option (either with or without mount plate) and can make a group buy  Just got back home, so I'll post some updates in the coming hour...

So, you're comfortable with SMD? I have barely any experience with SMD, but you gotta do things to get better :P The first Atmega32u4 is in place, now for the other parts. I used 1206 (3.2x1.6 mm) components so it's really not THAT small. http://i.imgur.com/iq58e9K.jpg http://i.imgur.com/CEhWPTp.jpg

Talking about innovation and all new affordable gaming keyboards but what he described as ground breaking and special is basically every custom keyboard ever. Also, the screenshots of "his" design is the most standard 60% layout you can buy (except for the ...

Sorry, no idea regarding US companies for PCBs. Maybe someone else here has a recommendation.
You could always order from china real cheap, though.

Here you go. Be warned that KiCad is really annoying to learn and use, crashes regularly and the library management is not very intuitive... :? ...but it's open source and usually you can somehow work around the bugs  I used the latest 2015 Stable (KiCad 4.0.0-rc1) to create that PCB. You shoul...

My problem is that kicad does not produce the DXF-output that is needed. I can't repair it, so I need to make the DXF myself. But then, there is Round 5a and those new legends. In order to not delay Round 5a, I need to send all SVG graphics to SP at 2 November 2015. When I've finished that, I can w...
