Re: Thickness of foam for Model F XT

I would honestly just go on eBay and buy some standard neoprene foam at a size of 3mm. As it will make the assembly tighter. Also another reason to go with standard neoprene is to avoid the possibility of the foam in the assembly degrading again.

Hope that helps.

Re: IBM Model F AT Space-bar mod

Well ultimately you would have to separate the barrel plate and back plate. In terms of "hack job" if you are referring to the method with drilling holes in the spacebar stabiliser posts to reattach the stabiliser bar. Then the answer is no you don't have to do a hack job. But you do for sure have t...

Can anyone proxy me some Unicomp stuff?

Hi I use an IBM Model F AT as my daily driver absolutely loving it. But would really like to spice my keyboard up a bit with some different coloured keycaps e.g. for the ESC, WASD. To do this I was going to buy some Unicomp caps but as I live in the UK shipping would be a killer as I have recently f...

Kishy’s original find was made in 1983:

I had 4 of them at one point (as Tinnie’s UK proxy) and the oldest was 1983 as I recall. My own is 1986 I think.

I wonder if you took the cover off, if the board would have keyswitches in the other positions (just no caps) or if it would be totally unpopulated
My guess is it would probably be unpopulated just to save money.

Yes I see what you mean. A lot of wasted space though the keyboard could have been a lot smaller judging from the key layout.

The most useless keyboard in existence?

I was browsing for keyboards today and found this. The layout is beyond useless I just had to share this find. I can't even begin to think how difficult this would be to use on a daily.

IBM Model M controller into IBM Model F?

Hello everyone I'm wondering if any of you know if it would be possible to swap my IBM Model F AT's controller with the controller out of a Model M. As they are both capacitive designs. Soldering would obviously be needed but would this idea work if anyone could let me know it would really help me o...

Re: Motorola AlphaMate Keyboard. Anyone know what switch it uses?

It could use Cherry MX back's as Motorola keyboards use Cherry MX blacks a lot of the time in their keyboards. Then again one of the keycaps have faded so it may not be Cherry as a lot of the time terminal keyboards with cherry switches have double shot keycaps which don't fade. It could also possib...

Re: IBM Model F, M, and HHKB

Well if you are going to look at it like that then here's a question why make one of the most used keys smaller such as the Enter key? and then make backslash bigger than 1U even though it is a less used key then enter? just so it can fill the gap near the enter? These are just my opinions again i d...

Re: IBM Model F, M, and HHKB

I can't really talk much for the HHKB but I can say that some of the IBM Model F's are perfectly usable with some tinkering. The Model F AT is usable once you add some extra key barrels to either allow for an ANSI enter or an ISO both can be done. The other thing that can be converted if need be is ...
