That's quite possible. I've found the springs inside to look somewhat rough, presumably not made out of the greatest quality metal. Maybe they're partly responsible for the feel. Might swap one or two for springs from the Epson and see how it affects them (the Epson also that lock light sliders for ...

I agree with you on every point. Glad to see someone else here take a look at the Fujitsu FKB4700. If only the switch was more satisfying this keyboard could turn out to be one of my daily drivers. With the build quality it's a shame really. I wonder if changing the springs could "improve" the swit...

Fujitsu FKB4700

Fujitsu FKB4700 TBbaOXe4-Sk The most common keyboard to feature these rubber-dome-with-slider Fujitsu Peerless switches, I've been intrigued by these switches for a while... And lo and behold, I get one for £0.50 xD . It's one of the most well-built keyboards I've seen so far. Like a Model M, it ha...

The ISO one is fine, and I much prefer the ISO one to the ANSI one, which is horrendous, but I prefer the big-ass one even more than the ISO one. I guess I just really don't want to think about where to hit an enter key xD . Personally I like ANSI not because it's what I grew up with (I actually gr...

One of the biggest confusions around Hi-Teks is what switch is what, linear, clicky or tactile. You never know what you get, really. Do you know maybe how you can recognise each variety?

Cool, the wiki mentions is wasn't certain that NMB acquired Hi-Tek, but this seems to have cleared it up :) . Welcome to DT! I've got a Hi-Tek board from 1985, but I don't think it has any NMB logos on it, just says Hi-Tek.

I use all layouts, but I prefer one with a bigass Enter key and two-unit backspace. The \ key's best place is next to Z, otherwise in place of a windows key (or app key!) or next to the right shift. Hate ANSI, genuinely don't see the point of it.

Chyros: This is the poll that fed that poll: http://deskthority.net/awards-f28/best-keyboard-switch-2011-t1578.html That poll kinds shows it's really just that people don't have everything to compare :p . Got both of mine for free :) . But yeah, they're a bit more rare. I'd defintely recommend both though, excellent stuff. I wish I had an SGI to compare them to... The SGI feels a bit more solid in build quality than the Dell but I have no proof of that. I could weigh both. Do they differ in construc...

you have quite a Dell collection then? Impressive! Well they're easy to get because they're so ubiquitous I guess xD . I had two 101ws but I disassembled one of them and I had to disassemble the Salmon one too because it was pretty broken (see video). They're an interesting family though, and I lik...

This SGI is PS/2 indeed, I'm typing on it now. Interesting how these cream Alps feel slightly different from those in my AEK2. Might be a function of the case, or the switches might have been different marks. The black Alps in my AT101 feel and sound completely different from those in my AT101W, fo...

You mean someone manually replaced that switch? Should be easy to determine, the soldering will look different in that case. Either that or the slider somehow got lost and someone replaced the slider with a spare Salmon one...

Looks nice, I hope I get a PS/2 one of these someday :D . About the salmon switch; I'm guessing that's an actual SKCM Salmon switch, right? That's interesting; this board hasn't been reported to come with Salmons. In some Alps boards, the switches are a smattering of switches the board came with ove...

Alps keyboards are notorious for being affected quite badly when dirty. Nonetheless, the keyfeel of the newer Black Alps in the Dell AT101W is quite unclean and rough and not all that representative of other Alps switches. If you want to see if it would've been better otherwise, I made a video tutor...

my video reviews & intro

Hiya guys, pleased to meet you all. In lieu of an intro post, I figured I'd do it like this instead. My name's Thomas, I live in the UK, and I've been doing several video reviews of mechanical keyboards. I prefer vintage boards (I like the simple aesthetics and sturdy look and feel of old boards com...
