"Has the Mini-M replaced the need for an SSK?"

In a sense, I hope it HAS. That would mean the continued existence of mass-produced Model M TKL keyboards, as opposed to the current stock of "vintage" units that would not be replenished whenever one "dies".

Re: Has the Mini-M replaced the need for an SSK?

What I really want is a programmable mini-M. That's now possible with the Raspberry Pi Pico controller and the port of QMK/VIA for it. I think my money is better spent on getting a new controller from Unicomp when they catch up on backorders. Then by all means do that. Meanwhile, I keep on using my...

Surely you can’t be serious. If there’s F122, then you need 2 of them, promptly! What beats more keys? More more keys! Moar more! Yes, but the addition of keys needs to make sense — it ain't more keys only for the sake of more keys. Otherwise, you end up with useless overgrown junk like the "Hyper ...

Here are the first photos of the completed and tested M Style FSSK sample; it is configured with the HHKB Style Split Right Shift and Split Backspace. Since the ~ ` key is left of the 1 ! key, I was not sure which key to place in the rightmost key of the block, so I selected a blank key. Any ideas ...

The stand is dope ! You mind sharing the files for it ? I want to do something very similar with my boards. :D

Re: Hyper 7 keyboard review (Kailh BOX Burnt Orange)

Chyros's point appears to me to be: 'Why complicate life for all of us when most of us just want the keyboard to do what it says on the keys?' ;) There's no question about that. The real question is: How on Earth do you set up a default behaviour in the first place on a custom keyboard? Also, how c...

Indeed, even my [exact familiar relationship redacted] can use QMK Configurator/QMK Toolbox without fuss after only a couple minutes of guidance. Not much of a learning curve there, as the (rather intrincate and complex) innards of QMK are well covered!

Re: Hyper 7 keyboard review (Kailh BOX Burnt Orange)

Keyboards have been able to do on-board macro programming and key rebinding without any external software necessary since at least the 90s. Why on earth would we need this software now? Let alone such frustrating, complicated software with a notoriously steep learning curve? Let's see the possible ...

I’m a user. I don't give a rat's ass about licencing! Soarer's not going to come after me. Besides, we already updated his tools to 64 bit . As long as Atmel makes those 32u4 chips of theirs, Soarer's will still work. And when Atmel replaces those with, say, "64u8" chips, you'll be s-o-o-l, to put ...

Re: Hyper 7 keyboard review (Kailh BOX Burnt Orange)

… What I'd actually advise is Soarer's Controller . Soarer's Con * do do with ease some things that are rather difficult in TMK/QMK. I am nevertheless ditching the former in favour of the latter: S.C. is, sadly, abandonware with licensing issues and needs some updates, and there are no signs whatso...

Re: Hyper 7 keyboard review (Kailh BOX Burnt Orange)

Also, I find the SAP/QMK comparison a bit insulting for the latter. QMK is a useful program, for starters. QMK shouldn't even exist, it's doing something that software shouldn't do :p . SAP at least does a software's job (albeit poorly). The idea of a keyboard controller lacking software entirely s...

I do have an SSK that could sacrifice its "emness" in favor of becoming an FSSK (I got one specifically for this, before the prices of SSKs, in good shape or not, went through the roof). Well, we finally have "RINO" keyboards in the hobby.

That thing needs a large logo somewhere highly visible, so its (l)users won't forget this is supposed to be a "Realforce" keyboard, instead of just some other RGB cheapass mech-wannabe keeb.

I press the arrow keys surely hundreds of times a day. And yet they're not dedicated keys. Spooky, eh? ;) I learned on Atari 800XL keyboards, where the arrows where on the CTRL layer; things got worse with the M0110 keyboard, which expected you to use the stupid™ mouse. Getting dedicated arrow keys...

It's not the «"A" scancode instead of the "Q" scancode» — it's always 0x51. Let the OS decide whether that should mean 'a' or 'q'. That's what I said - although it's 0x14. 0x51 is "down arrow".
