Schaeffer's software is fine for panels - I've had several from them and they're good quality, and the software is easy to use for a non-CAD chap like myself. What makes it useful in that respect is that it's tailored for sending the data straight to them and calculating price. I don't know anything...

Well I've already got my Pi, so if there's anything I can do to help I'd be interested. As for case design, I started to put together a simple idea made of layered alu/perspex using the panel design software provided by Schaeffer. It would work out very expensive using their services for it, but I j...

Sounds interesting. The old Memotech was quite slinky - black and red is a great combo. Have you considered the Raspberry Pi for your computer instead of the Mini? Not as powerful, but nice and small. I was going to try to fit one in an old Cherry case, but I decided in the end I'd just design my ow...

Tenkeyless. I grew up using 8-bit micros that lacked a keypad, and just got used to the number row; when I did start using full-size boards, I never really moved across as entering lots of numbers was never part of what I needed. For most textual work I find the number row is more convenient. Also, ...

Day two of noodling - and I'm still of the opinions listed above, viz. they are more refined than regular rubber domes with a less mushy landing, and firmer and more even travel on both the down and up strokes (due mostly to the presence of the spring, I guess, though I haven't compared the ways in ...

The image is misrepresentative of the item you receive (different engraving, no box) and the packaging was insufficient. I'd be contacting the seller with those complaints if I were you. If they don't help you out in some way that satisfies you (eg. partial refund, etc), start a dispute procedure vi...

Yep, the cluster arrived here about five minutes ago. I've got it on my desk just beside my keyboard for spare-time noodling, and I'll report back properly later. Initial impressions right out of the box are: 1. Less mushy than regular rubber domes. 2. The lack of a spring in the centre key feels a ...

Given they were big in the 80s, you should make drum machine sounds from the samples. With some pitch-shifting and a bit of gated reverb you're away.

I think it's a matter of just getting used to it; I used blanks for a while but prefer being able to see the keys, as I never really learned to touch type properly. I know where everything is, but my hands don't get there as well if I can't occasionally look where they're going.

God yes. I hate the current overabundance of blue LEDs. They seem to be on everything these days. I have a few items with white LEDs, they're not so bad. Still prefer red/amber though, with yellow/green close behind.

Ulysses is a blast. You should try Finnegan's Wake... actually, I enjoyed Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man - it's more accessible but the beginnings of that development of style are there.

Interntational shipping, when done correctly, is not cheap. Not only does the raw cost from the shipper go up based on weight and volume, items should be insured for value and preferably tracked, and if you want something in a reasonably short time, you want airmail. Then there's import duty and tax...

Great till your arms get tired. I'm not sure the best interface for a vertical screen is going to involve waving your arms around in a seated position.
