Re: model m leds blinking when overloaded with keypresses?
Ah HA! My adapter is a Star Tech as well that does the resetting. It is however an older looking version that was designed for Macs (so it has the Apple translucent look of the day), but a Star Tech, and it is the one that resets with certain key combinations. (Up Left at the same time with my AT10...

Re: model m leds blinking when overloaded with keypresses?
... The keyboard is being reset because the converter failed to handle what you asked of it (why, I don't know, maybe it's a rollover thing or a sequence of keys in particular). I have two here in particular that are weird with both Model M's and AT101W's. One with Model M's does this, it resets if...

Re: model m leds blinking when overloaded with keypresses?
Sorry, I thought that my adapter was passive, but now I see that in the description it is probably active. Anyway I had the blinking leds problem on all the usb ports. It happens about two times a day. https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-USB-PS-Adapter-Keyboard/dp/B00028OP2Y "StarTech.com USB to PS/2 Ad...

model m leds blinking when overloaded with keypresses?
I've recently purchased an ibm model m 1391403 from 1996, more or less NOS. Sometimes, the three leds start blinking at the same time, then the keyboard stops registring keypresses for a second or two, and then everything goes back to normal. Why does this happen? The keyboard is a ps/2 and I connec...

Re: Foam Dampening of old keyboards?
Yes, that's really too thick for any keyboard. I had in mind the usual thickness that we use for model f restorations, which is 2mm max.Jan Pospisil wrote: ↑29 Aug 2020, 20:28I did try the neoprene also, but it might be too thick. (6mm)

Re: Foam Dampening of old keyboards?
I looked into the material - it's called Vibrofiltr Madeline, and is apparently polyester felt with an adhesive backing. So that should be fine. edit: Tried it, there's not enough space in the Ortek even for a thin foam slice. I also freaked out, because it looked like I bricked the keyboard someho...

Re: Resin print keyboard parts factory
$$hammer.jpg Right now I don't have a flipper at hand, anyway in my opinion the only facts that count in this preliminary phase are: - the distance between the center of rotation identified by the yellow arrow and the center of the spring - the angle between the axis of the spring "at rest" and the...

Re: Foam Dampening of old keyboards?
I bought two materials from a car shop - a thicker neoprene roll and a thinner fabric (?) like thing. Both seem to have peeling thingies, so I assume they're sticky on one side. I'm mainly asking if it's ok to put something like this under the PCB, if that doesn't damage it, short it or be...ungood...

Re: Foam Dampening of old keyboards?
So, gianni, is someone wanted to absorb a broad range of frequencies would a sandwich of materials of different densities be the answer? Yes, that's why lead is usually sold coupled with foam. Anyway in a keyboard there aren't low frequency sounds that may be annoying. It's all about high frequency...

Re: Foam Dampening of old keyboards?
Foam has a density that is too low to dampen the higher frequency sounds: to stop those you need a material with a high mass. Personally I've used foam and the difference was very noticeable, but it could have been bigger if I used different materials. You could also try some flexible panels that co...

Re: Resin print keyboard parts factory
I couldn't figure it out in my phone, but it seems that ellipse flippers have less detail/ resolution than yours, and that the red parts are quite smoothed out. Sincerely that makes sense, and with a simpler model you could make a flipper whose base is made of two different surfaces, with a small in...

Re: Resin print keyboard parts factory
Personally I'd make the area circled in red taller and longer. Then you can probably cut it away bit by bit until it works, using an exacto knife and sandpaper. In simple words, the points in red and the center of the spring must not be aligned. The red points must be a little bit on the left with r...

Re: Resin print keyboard parts factory
Furthermore there is an old post that shows two different kind of flippers. Maybe the squared one isn't from IBM and was used for repairs?!? https://deskthority.net/viewtopic.php?t=9715 If your flipper doesn't click, maybe change the angle of the spring? This surely modifies the buckling in a substa...

Sorry, I got lost in your words and I didn't understand why conductive filament doesn't work in the model f flipper. You won't use it because it is worse (for the details), than the standard filament?

I'd be interested in the springs, flippers and barrels. How much would you ask for those? Can you kindly tell me the delivery cost to Italy? Thanks

If you need a model for the key blocker, probably you can use this stl file as a base to work on (well obviously in your version the top will be square not rounded).

Re: The Problem with Mechanical Switch Reviews
I've noticed that there is a big variability among the model m keyboards. I've used a nos keyboard, and an heavily used one. The difference was incredible, the used one was much lighter. I don't see such a difference among model Fs. What's the cause? Quality control and different spring batches, or ...

Re: Unicomp Ultra Classic dropping rivets too quickly...
The really worrying thing is that the new ssk won't sell very well (it won't), so any innovation that we've seen in the last years ends here. I think that most of its popularity arises from word of mouth, from the fact that it's a rare keyboard and that everyone brags about owning one. The ISO one w...

Maybe, but still you can use qmk and at the same time prevent users from overwriting it (you just need to release the code since it's open source).

Why in these times they still use their proprietary firmware instead of an open source one? It's incredible that the new ssk is being delayed by such trivialities.
