Nothing personal, but why are the images blurry over the 3/4 of the surface? To add the artistic touch, or some physical/lens/macro... limitation? I personally would like to see the whole picture not just the minimal focused part. I take a lot of pics, I usually just put the ones I like in the post...

NEC PC-9800 Keyboard (Modified)

So I picked up this keyboard, mostly because I didn't have one of these in the proper case. But it also had something odd...USB?! Otherwise, the keyboard the same as an a keyboard I posted a couple months ago: NEC KBL-729EC-103 Also uses the NEC Oval Switches. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1652/244...

Kiibohd 16 - Bay Area Keyboard Meetup - 2016/02/27

Finally! After travelling way too much, releasing the Whitefox, another run of the Ergodox as well as prepping the KType for CES, I have time to organize another meetup! The next meetup will be on Saturday, February 27, 2016 @ 1 PM Massdrop HQ 100 Bush Street, Suite 1000 San Francisco, CA 94104 One ...

Also, that particular connector is *THE WORST*. It's a discontinued DIN variant. I managed to find some by sheer accident a while back. It has a sort of horse-shoe shape so you really can't use the other DIN connectors.

Are those doubleshots Topre compatible? I know some brother keycaps are. Sorta, they fit on, and the keys press fine. But because they only have one slot, the keycaps angle forward. Are these switches actually nice to type on? I also really really like the way you take your pictures Haata, they jus...

Another Prototopre switch used by Epson. As I mentioned in this post the other day, I currently suspect that these domes were designed/OEM'd by Brother for a variety of different companies. Unfortunately, there are very few markings on the pcb, outside what seems to be the PCB fab identification (GC...

So I'd always passed over these keyboards thinking "probably just another dome...". But was I so wrong. I have 3 keyboards that look very similar, all with different switches. I suspect Burroughs/Unisys possibly used even more OEMs. This one uses ITW Low-profile magnetic valve switches. And for thos...

Basically all Topre cap sense keyboards have domes like this. At least all the ones I've dismantled anyways.

Pretty sure it's uniform 45g for all the switches (my preferred Topre weighting :D ).

I generally call this switch "Prototopre". I've seen it as early as 1982 in some Epson/Seikosha keyboards. Topre, didn't even start looking into office/business equipment until 1983, but the designs are very similar. My theory is that either some engineers that did the original design or used it as ...

I think it may have identifiable parts, though there's more transistor logic going on in the board than what IBM did it seems. This particular board has a bunch of rework which is annoying when reverse engineering.

I've made the pads work even with my finger, so it might be possible. Though I'm not sure the thresholding is setup correctly.
My guess is that the pads are bare copper so the spring would have to be at least non-conductive.

As long as the connector is the same (Epson used some odd shaped DIN connectors that are hard to get/find) you should be fine. I haven't seen any DIN cables that did any sort of cross-over (like ethernet and serial cables often do).

However, they've also confirmed it's an MDS keyboard (Mohawk Data Sciences) key to tape system keyboard.

So I've had this keyboard for a while, but hadn't gotten around to taking full pictures of it (partially because it was hard to clean without bleeding over everything :? ). Here's a keyboard, sorta crappy really. But, it has a capacitive Foam'n'Foil switches I haven't seen before. It's made (or at least FCC'd) by Deyi Technology Co. sometime around 1987. https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5734/23274243804_6704c85266_k.jpg DSC02366 https://farm1.staticflickr.com/708/2387621...

I'd been meaning to pic one of these typewriters up for a while (as I didn't have this Marquardt switch variant yet), Marquardt two-finger typewriter switch (as mentioned in the wiki). I'm always sorta afraid to do tear-downs of typewriters...mostly because it takes *forever*. This one didn't help, because I have a demo video of the portions that are still working (including the VFD!).
