Re: Bad Damped Alps Remedies?
Aye, these days. I got my own Alps for no more than that… many years ago. ;) I remember this topic of recent Matias switch reliability came up on DT in the last few months. People still had mixed reports about it. Matias keyboards in particular can come in a mix of good and baaaaaaaad switches, as ...

Re: Bad Damped Alps Remedies?
Now, I would *not* advise bothering with Matias switches. We all want them to work, because worn old Alps, amirite? But the new fuckers just fail too much to be worth it. Matias retooled their switches a while ago and they no longer chatter. They are also very smooth and nice to type on. OP, I can ...

Re: Availability of Soarer's converters
Love Hasu and TMK and QMK too. But Soarer has them all beat, pants down, when it comes to macros. Always has done. Nobody does it better. Soarers is closed-source. Huge negative imo. Personally I don't think Soarers beats them "hands down" when it comes to macros but I haven't done advanced ones wi...

Re: Availability of Soarer's converters
4. Well the answers to 2 and 3 are yes, but TMK is a solid alternative. Worst case scenario you map matrix and use QMK. Hasu did a great job handling all the various IBM boards with a single firmware: https://github.com/tmk/tmk_keyboard/tree/master/converter/ibmpc_usb You can easily edit your layou...

Re: Availability of Soarer's converters
1. Yes, but I would never buy a prebuilt one as they are overpriced trash. You can build one yourself in 5 minutes for a quarter of the price. 2. As mentioned above, DIY one. You just need a Pro Micro, the appropriate socket or connector for the board you're converting, and some wire/solder/solderin...

Re: Great/Interesting Finds
Interesting...seller says this is a NOS Apple IIc replacement board with Blue Alps. Anyone seen that before? I was pretty sure it was hairspring (A2S4000) and Amber Alps (A2S4100/memory expansion) only.... https://www.ebay.com/itm/133764731514/ Yes I remember seeing one, someone posted it either he...

Kinda weird thought but has anyone tried just rubbing a candle with an alps slider to get a super thin coating of "lube" on it?

Can you try TMK?
Also I wanted pics of PCB to check if it had the MCU reset line connected to what would've been the original cable but it doesn't appear to.

Re: Could anyone tell me a bit more about these two numpads?
Bit off topic. As kinda of weirdo who has like 20+ fujitsu leaf spring kbs I 99% sure they're linear 3rd fls but not clicky version(I have at least 6 different models with clicky fls iirc, so will be big surprised if im wrong for the linear guess). I do enjoy them, but you could have your thoughts ...

Re: Could anyone tell me a bit more about these two numpads?
They aren't. The weighting sucks ass and they aren't as exceptionally smooth as Chyros (and subsequently the entire vint keeb community) jerks them off to be. It's almost as if keyfeel is subjective and dependant on condition or something. Dude, I think you may be on to something! But nah, on secon...

Re: Longterm Daily Drivers
So I finally got around to swapping in Matias quiet linears which are really quite nice and underrated imo. I also threw in a solenoid for good measure but I have to do a third revision driver board that actually uses new parts instead of 40 y/o ones from some shit microswitch ITT courier with a zin...

fwiw my bamboo white Alps don't have grainy tactility. Perhaps something is wrong with your switches (yes, yes, I know they're NOS, but still).Jan Pospisil wrote: ↑29 Apr 2021, 17:58I have some bamboo white alps NOS and while the switch goes down ok, the tactility itself is kinda grainy. I was wondering if lube could improve that.

Bump, maybe you can try buying one and then making up bullshit reasons to scam the seller into giving you a return? That might work. Re: Unitech K-973 IBM I aint battle ship keyboard
The extra pins are for diodes. These switches shipped with diodes preinstalled by Cherry. The caps? I dunno. The closeup on the X key looks nice, like dyesub, but they yellowed like ABS, and even whitened back up in peroxide, too. Doesn't seem like PBT. Speaking of which: nice job on the case. Thos...

Membrane trace repair is already a pain in the ass, and it looks like that assembly is plastic riveted shut, so imo it is absolutely not worth trying to fix unless you have a sentimental attachment to the keyboard.
