You can slap a DMA or Xwhatsit in anything capacitive as long as you have a proper number of rows and columns. You just have to be willing to detach or desolder the original controller bits.

What a unique and really cool board.
Wouldn't know where to start. :P I'm dumb.

Re: IBM Model F AT Keyboard restoration

Not much is available in the UK in terms of foam. I tried art foam, but it deadens the sound/feel. I'm scared to open my AT assembly and properly clean the barrel frame/ change the foam. I've done this before with other Models F and ended up completely ruining the feel. I just can't get it right.

Re: IBM Model F AT Keyboard restoration

Nice work! First ISO mod I've seen on an AT. What foam did you use? I've had a hard time trying to find 3mm thick foam that compresses.

Re: Soviet Model F clone with capacitive buckling springs

Well darn... Seems like this firmware could be similar to soarers. Not sure if it only works on zx computers though. Quite alternate reality mode https://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?depth=1&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=auto&sp=nmt4&tl=en&u=https://zx-pk.ru/threads/609-zx_multi_card....

That's pretty cool.

I know the eastern block made their own copies of pretty much everything back then, but I had never heard of these before. Excellent find!
Thanks! I couldn't believe my eyes when I found out what it was. I will definitely update this thread when I get it!

I found at least a sort of sound bite of the sound.

Thanks! Wow, it does sound like a Model F too! Pretty damn metallic and high-pitched.

Soviet Model F clone with capacitive buckling springs

I found this on Ebay and pretty much bought it instantly after finding out about the switches. It's a Soviet Model F with a capacitive PCB, F-like, if not identical, flippers and springs and a similar metal assembly. There are only two pages on the internet featuring this keyboard, it seems. One of ...

Re: Is the IBM Wheelwriter badge same size as the keyboard badge?

It's really hard to see in the photo, but what is around the badge? Is that the uncoloured plastic underneath? That badge is very pretty.

Re: Is the IBM Wheelwriter badge same size as the keyboard badge?

I appreciate your reply, thanks! I'll not risk it then. Pity, as I think this keyboard would look even more gorgeous with a black metal badge..

Is the IBM Wheelwriter badge same size as the keyboard badge?

Hi guys, I have an IBM 5155 Model F here that would look sick with a black metal badge like on the industrial models. It would be fitting, as the grey plastic insert makes it look like one. :P Will the pretty black metal badge on an IBM Wheelwriter fit in the badge recess of my keyboard? Just want t...

Re: SKCM Alps Orange: Pinging After Cleaning Help

It's very subjective. For example, a rather loyal viewer of mine frequently makes comments on videos, especially those of very pingy boards, and he often gets frustrated he can't make any of his boards sound as piny as mine appear to do; he seems to be in pursuit of history's pingiest board. Some o...

It doesn't just feel "a bit looser" unfortunately, it feels terrible - 10x worse than before I took it apart and put the new thicker art foam mat inside. The little alignment nubs that stick through the barrel frame are not uniform - they're just about poking through the middle of the barrel frame. ...

I know how to disassemble and reassemble these, although I really appreciate the detailed advice. I tend to use clamps with the XT, even with thin foam. I was talking about the fact the barrel frame straightened itself out along the middle, so that it was no longer parallel with the backplate. I cou...

It's obviously tried to straighten itself out along the middle. This has happened every single time I've opened a Model F. Seriously, what am I doing wrong? I had a lovely keyboard until I ruined it.

I used a hole punch, yes. I realised the plate was bent when disassembling it again. This must have happened after I disassembled it the first time. I tried bending it inwards and putting the original foam mat in, but it still feels terrible and mushy and inconsistent. God I hate myself. It's going ...

Model F XT foam

Hi guys, I'm looking to buy a foam mat cut to size and ready to use for my XT. I've tried making my own mats with different foam thicknesses, but I just can't do it right... I assemble the keyboard together and it feels inconsistent and sounds like crap. I'm really looking for some high quality foam...
