Re: Retr0bright - a cautionary tale

So last weekend I threw an Macintosh case out. This is the result: 20190816_180331.jpg That's beyond yellow. Maybe it's too far gone to be recovered. I've seen badly yellowed plastic before, but this looks like hardened orange. I've got an Amiga 500 that's the yellowest I've ever seen, but it never...

Wow, that Crested Caracara is a weird looking guy. At the risk of turning this into a bird thread... here are regular visitors in front of my house: heron.jpg eagles.jpg ...along with falcons, black hawks, blue jays, chickadees, hummingbirds and various sea birds. I assume most of them help with the...

Re: Our desktops of yore.

Nice picture, vometia. So, apparently, all my recent mountaintop selfies are topless. Maybe not the best thing to inflict on a Sunday morning public. Thank you for that. I'm having my morning tea and I don't want to spit it over my computer. Well crop out the topless-ness and lets see what a mountai...

Re: Our desktops of yore.

I had a reunion with Windows 3 in the late nineties, when I was face to face with Windows For Workgroups at a government agency. Ah, Windows for Workgroups... I remember that. It was supposed to be so "modern". I thought it was a piece of shit compared to the Amiga Workbench I'd used years earlier....

Re: has the trackball landscape changed in any way lately?

I've used trackballs for decades - MicroSpeed/CST and CH Products DT225. I never thought it a problem using trackballs for games. I had much more problems trying to use a mouse for games.

Re: Our desktops of yore.

My office looked similar - except we usually had those typical fabric dividers so you didn't have to stare at the ugly faces of co-workers (a considerable improvement).

It's strange that we're now at a time where desktop computers and CRT monitors are considered "vintage".

Well just look at how white this seagull turned out: Seagull checking out keyboard.JPG He used to be totally yellow. OK, not really... it's a real seagull who came to check out my keyboards in the sun. But you can see the Apple IIc, about 3/4 of the way to becoming as white as in the previously post...

I still think it's strange that you haven't had any results. You know you're old when somebody says, "Oh, Windows 95! My dad says he used that when he was a kid. It's ancient!"

When my dad was a kid, computers were just being invented to break Nazi code.

Random comment about spherical vs. cylindrical which is that it may have been at the behest of the typists. I've mentioned on my MX Black Impressions topic that the gf borrowed my keyboard with the SA profile and didn't care for it. The main reason is because she has long nails which would catch on...

Format YYYYMMDD or YYYY-MM-DD (including zeroes!) is a format that is most computer-friendly. If you use it in lists or filenames, dates as characters and/or numbers are always recognized in the proper order. Yes. YYYY-MM-DD is (or was) the official Canadian date format, but years of computers defa...
