I successfully paid for an earlier portion of my order with Google Wallet, but this second set of additions to my order add up to quite a bit more $$$, and I can't help but wonder if Google has arbitrarily decided to impost an inappropriate hold on the transfer (even though the funds have been deduc...

It goes way back to early adding machines. The numeric cluster where the number 1 to 9 are in three throws with the 0 at the bottom has long been called a "Ten key". http://retrocalculators.com/sundstrand.htm Hmm. You're probably right. It doesn't make any sense--whomever first put "TKL" on a keybo...

Who came up with the misnomer "tenkeyless"?
My understanding is that the difference between a full ANSI/ISO keyboard and a "TKL" (tenkeyless) board is the absence of the numpad keys. If so, the term "tenkeyless" is clearly a misnomer since the numpad consists of seventeen keys, not ten. Who came up with this term, and where did they learn to ...

My itch for sphericals will get scratched when my R5a order is fulfilled next year. You have to realize that it isn't just the spherical top, but the entire design aesthetic of Muirium's Honywell keycap replicas that cause salivation (including the color choices beyond black). Not to mention the Spa...

I've also been trying to figure out Ridley Scott's other movie with interesting keyboards: Alien. I still don't know what switch that is: I too have been trying to find information about the keyboard that Dallas used to communicate with Mother inside that white computer chamber. Such a singular set...

Quieting a Costar stabilizer
Is there a recommended method for quieting a noisy Costar stabilizer? The stabilizer for the Backspace key on my Filco makes more noise than the other stabilizers; I can wiggle the key and feel it is just generally looser than the others. Ideas?

Ah, so that's what HONEY/HONEYB refers to... And why am I not surprised to find you, Muirium, are the instigator of that set? ;) I'd like to point out, as you did in that past forum post, that terminal keycaps of that era were pretty glossy. Glossy no longer seems to be in vogue today, and so it see...

Yeah, I realize my Round 5a Space Cadets are a long way away from my grubby paws. Something to look forward to (that's how I console my impatient self). Still, I can't help but think that had I gotten into this back during Round 4 and 5, I'd have some lovely SAs already . ;-) But I remain curious: w...

So I've figured out that "R5" is shorthand around here for keycaps purchased through the Round 5 group buy. Aside from "repair" sets for the previous Round 4 "Spherical" set, Round 5 appears to consist of four color combinations. Was it common for participants to buy all four? In Muirium's video com...

Interesting choice of trade-offs there. If I had to choose between sacrificing the numpad or the nav cluster, I would definitely ditch the numpad. I use the arrow keys and Home/End/PgUp/PgDn way too much to ever give them up. If I had to write code without those keys, I think I'd go insane (hint: ha...

If the double-shot process were perfected for PBT, would that become the new must-have format? One of the things I like about the Signature Plastics line of SA profile (ABS) keycaps is the semigloss finish option. From what I can tell, there is simply no such thing as semigloss when it comes to PBT...

I found with the 87U a realization that I use the numpad more than I thought while programming. I can see the attraction to smaller boards for straight typing, but I personally wouldn't use something like the HHKB for programming - I don't think I would be tolerant to the slowdowns it forces. Not s...

If one had to choose between, say, a dyesub PBT set and a double-shot ABS set, which would you choose? Suppose you are hooked on the SA profile (though you also feel that DSA is a reasonable alternative), and you found a set you loved the look/design of, but you had to choose between SAs in ABS or D...

The lovely thing about today's better mechanical boards, like the Filcos, is that even the full 104/105 boards have a substantially reduced footprint compared to the aircraft carriers of the past (the AEK I/II wasn't nicknamed "Saratoga" for nothing). There's no need to ditch the numpad just to keep...

Excellent, thorough review of the NovaTouch. Much appreciated! So I guess if CM ever makes a full-size ANSI model with Realforce- or Leopold-calibre internal damping, I'll be standing in line for one. Just to try it out of curiosity, if nothing else. In the mean time, my fetish for SA caps continues...
