Re: Great/Interesting Finds
Digging that split spacebar on the Xerox for sure! My bet is on something other than ALPS or Cherry Switches in it, but could be anything. It certainly has some nice aesthetics either way and would make a nice display piece even if not easily converted or fun to type on. Fingers crossed that it is b...

Re: Beam Spring Switch Reproduction Project
Beautiful project! If I had the design skills that you do, I'd likely have tried something similar myself. I would imagine that designing a custom Beamspring PCB/custom barrel plate would be child's play compared to switch design? I've had some ideas for custom layouts using original (or these repro...

Re: Is this what the hole in the 5251 is for?
Definitely a beauty! Those triple wide keys often do end up with broken stem insert areas, but they do typically continue to work fine. Worst case scenario you could rebuild the plastic up with epoxy. Did I miss the part about the question of what a certain hole is for that you reference in the title?

Very nice system indeed! I have one of those flat short coiled SDL cables and didn't really know the history behind it, but now I know that it originally went with this type of system.

I was big into Golden Sun the for the Gameboy Advance at the time and Orihalcon was one of the items that you would use to forge into the Excalibur Sword. I believe it was the second most powerful weapon in the game and something that you wouldn't get at all unless you got fairly lucky as forged ite...

Re: Gold Label Omni Key 102 Questions
Very interesting thread! If With all that has already been tried, if it was me, I'd look to source a working PCB from a later model with the same layout (which looks like you have the most common one). Lots of these have been parted out over the years, and I would bet some some users still have thos...

Re: Removing "deep grime" from beamspring keycaps
Wondering if that grime is really printer toner? That stuff is about the hardest to get off of anything, so perhaps look into chemicals that can remove toner. Agree with the above that abrasives aren't ideal, but a magic eraser and some 91% isopropyl alcohol might just do the trick and won't cause m...

Re: New to Deskthority, need help
Could just be that your "P" switch is permanently on, so you could desolder that and if the "p" stops being output, the rest of it might work as well. It's fairly unusual for ICs to be bad, though you might look for bad capacitors though if there are any.

Hey all, I can't say that I really know what the going rate is on F107's these days, but I also don't want to just list stuff that sells immediately at a price that I "guess" to be a fair price, hence no buy it now on that one. The last complete unconverted F107 I believe sold for around $3500 at au...

Very nice restore! I’ve had one like this in the past and what really kill things is if the springs and stems are rusted though, so I’m glad yours was salvageable!
How did you restore the case? Chemicals vs sandblasting, or both? What type of paint?

Can't say if they were ever disassembled at any point, but actuation can be off if you have the blue slider rotated 180 degrees in some cases.
Re: Plt No
I have suspected that they might have had something to do with the factory keycaps. Been a while since I looked closely at one, but I believe the blue sub legend model F122’s have a unique PLT No, though part number was the same as other models in some cases. You’d have to get a good sample size of ...

Re: Do the orihalcon Soarers have pull ups?
I actually just tried adding some 1k resistors between +5V to Clock and +5V to Data on an XT Model F that was working fine unmodified. Adding those two 1K resistors caused it to stop working altogether. Of note, there was already about 2K resistance between +5V and the clock and data lines while unp...

Re: Do the orihalcon Soarers have pull ups?
Very interesting. I could implement this on a future batch of AT/XT converters. The pull ups noted could be added from within the keyboard for those that have the issue (basically just a short jumper cable that goes between the cable and the motherboard (for a solderless solution) , or by soldering ...

Re: IBM Model F AT Key Issues After Foam Change?
Agree, spring is in correct barrel, tilting keyboard back as far as possible while you put the cap on often is needed for certain keys. I’m talking very tilted back like perpendicular to the ground. You might also want to examine the inside of your shift keycaps as well. I’ve seen a few instances wh...

Re: IBM Model F AT Key Issues After Foam Change?
This might seem kind of basic, but did you put the hammer under the correct barrel for these multi wide keys? The cap won’t orient the spring in the right position if it’s under the wrong barrel. Also explains why putting a single unit cap over the spring DOES work.

If you have access to a regular XT capsense PCB, since the layout is the same, you can just change capsense PCBs (which has the controller on it) that and you'll have an easy to convert XT signal and you could even use the XT's original cable if you so choose. I've made this suggestion a few differe...

Wouldn’t be too hard for a lot of people here to fix, but the to and from shipping cost really adds up fast unfortunately, likely much more than the cost of the repair itself. How much were you looking to pay total?
