Definitely a beauty! Those triple wide keys often do end up with broken stem insert areas, but they do typically continue to work fine. Worst case scenario you could rebuild the plastic up with epoxy. Did I miss the part about the question of what a certain hole is for that you reference in the title?

Could just be that your "P" switch is permanently on, so you could desolder that and if the "p" stops being output, the rest of it might work as well. It's fairly unusual for ICs to be bad, though you might look for bad capacitors though if there are any.

If they are two piece caps, you might try using vintage stems with the tops and the wiggle issue likely will go away

This might seem kind of basic, but did you put the hammer under the correct barrel for these multi wide keys? The cap won’t orient the spring in the right position if it’s under the wrong barrel. Also explains why putting a single unit cap over the spring DOES work.
