Re: [New Product] Kailh Silent Box Switch
I'm really glad to hear about this switch. I like to type on BOX Browns sometimes.
However, it looks as if it may have a Zilent-like tactility. I hope that is not the case, as that need is already fulfilled by Zilents. A silent switch closer to a BOX Brown would be just fine.

Thanks for the update. I plan to buy the set. If Triumph [teal] kits are largely still available, it should be fine as just a standard sale.

Re: Anyone know of a good scissor switch keyboard besides the Logitech k740?
Perixx told me last year that they are working on an 'office' version of that keyboard that has appropriate aesthetics. I hope that they do release something like that. I'd like a serious scissor-switch keyboard. The Logitech K740 had a good reputation, but if you look at more recent Amazon.com revi...

Re: Is it just me?
Is this because they have been heavily used for 10 years or am i just delusional? When Cherry switches are heavily worn-in, they tend to get better. So you're not delusional, worn-in blacks can be okay. But they were produced as scratchy for a long time before the retooling, were good again for may...

Re: Rubber domes suggestions
The Kensington Keyboard for Life offers good durability and decent key-feel for its low price. Some have said it's tactility is 'ALPS-like,' but I'm not sure what they mean by that. I doubt it's anywhere near Orange Alps, for example. Since you are in Europe, you might want to consider Perixx keyboa...

Hmm. I guess maybe there isn't a designation yet for the updated switches?
I also saw references to the existing switch designs when I actually searched for MX1A.

Re: Cherry Viola switch
It's my understanding that Cherry is also updating most of the existing MX line to "MX1A" standard, which is supposed to reduce dirt and change feel somewhat: The MX1A update includes modifications to 12 of Cherry’s MX line of switches. Essentially, the update will improve on each switch’s resistanc...

matt3o, can you tell me what your favourite tactiles are with PBT MT3 like dev/tty? I've only tried it with Gateron Brown at a meetup, and even that was impressive. I also see people using it with Pro Purples, which is intriguing. I like Gateron Brown, they are not the best sounding and feeling swi...

Re: suggestions for /dev/tty2 ?
Of course everything will be also available in teal mods. I had not a single request for ergodox over the past year or so... so I guess that ship has sailed. I still miss a few keys, the spacebars and some extras (being APL or the secondary legends or whatever) Ok, sorry, so teal means Triumph mods...

I'm one of the people who was left out from the original GB...I wasn't into keyboards at the time. Since that time I have desperately tried to get a full classic set, but I wasn't fast enough in the .00025 seconds R2 sold out during the 'keycap recap.' So I'd like to ask, will the Triumph mods be av...

I could imagine myself using this, but it would need some 'lava' accents. On Enter and Escape at the very least.

Here's some people who are selling their KPRepublic 9009 and Muted sets. From the images they have posted, you can get a sense of KPRepublic dye-sub quality. 9009 https://imgur.com/a/URKLyfH Muted https://imgur.com/a/ToKlk0O These sets aren't too bad. Re: EnjoyPBT Keycaps?
A few other important points: -All large PBT keys come with the risk of warping. But ePBT is known to have better QC in that respect. I have several spacebars from the 9009 set (one of the reasons it is more expensive), and it's not a serious issue. Although some people had problems. KPRepublic is w...

Re: EnjoyPBT Keycaps?
I own a GMK set and an ePBT set. GMK has better legends, it is known for 'legend perfection.' The consistency of both the legends and the keycaps themselves will be better than ePBT. However, as noted, ePBT is among the top Chinese keycap producers. They are using good blanks, maybe still Gateron bl...

Thanks for explaining these details, zslane. And sorry for taking up the picture thread with this. I find that your keyboard is a very good solution for having a full-size board with BOX Browns. In particular, it's better with BOX Browns than with Zilents, as you pointed out. It's also perfect for B...

Re: Post your keyboard/keycaps!
I've used BOX Browns on my switch-testing keyboard, and honestly it went great. Now I want to build a full-size with them, or at least a TKL. Don't even need metal, a plastic housing would be fine. Good to know that SA caps work well with them, because one day I might want to mount MT3. Currently, I...

Re: Tried ALPS for the first time
The first time I knowingly tried an ALPS switch was at a keyboard meetup last year. It was SKCM Orange, from an Apple keyboard, in a new PCB and case. I was stunned by the Orange ALPS switches, because the tactility was on a whole other level as compared to most MX tactiles. I immediately felt betra...

Re: Why are alps keyboards not as popular?
swampangel basically answered the question. It's been talked about in other places. Basically, mechanical keyboard switches faced an apocalypse after the '90s, and Cherry was the last-man standing. [Their switches are durable and affordable]. So, by default, they became the standard mechanical switc...

How would a Leopold be as a basis for switch modding?
My month-old Leopold is going to require desoldering. [The spacebar was on so tight that the second time I removed it, I pulled out the Cherry stabilizer peg.] I figured, why not get the whole thing desoldered. I see there is a guy on Reddit selling modded Leopolds, so why not? I was going to order ...

Re: So what's the 'classic' way to mount MX Browns?
I wonder if maybe I should order one of Cherry's keyboards. I understand that they aren't too expensive, and are being made to be essentially disposable (?). Hmmm. How is that G80-3850? Is that one of the classic PCB-mount designs? It's relatively affordable where I am. Otherwise, it's the G80-3000,...

Look, there are a lot of crap boards out there, and otherwise decent boards that are compromised in one way or another. Many of the crap and compromised boards are designed for 12-year-old 'gamers.' They have flashy RGB and perhaps the latest Razer switches that will hold the attention of the kid un...

Re: So what's the 'classic' way to mount MX Browns?
Thanks. Do you know off-hand which boards Cherry still makes with PCB mount? I think the 3000 is one of them?
Is that considered "good" for typing-feel? I know they are flimsy, but it will just be sitting at a desk.
I am thinking about getting one for typing at a desk.

So what's the 'classic' way to mount MX Browns?
There's a lot of hate on Browns, and I respect that. But I've seen differences in how they feel based on how they are setup. Now, there's a new Group Buy for the JER-A06, and it got me thinking. This is a PCB-mount keyboard, meant to emulate the classic Cherry boards that were plateless. People have...

I got into mechanical keyboards primarily because it was getting harder to pick up a decent rubber dome off-the-shelf. For years, I had something that looked like the Honeywell rubber dome pictured above. I don't remember the model number, but it had distinct, removable keycaps, and was generally in...

I've never had a fully-custom board before, only a factory-custom from Varmilo. But I'm looking into the KBD8X mkii from KBDFans, and I'm close to pulling the trigger on it. However, I am unsure what plate to use. They offer two options: brass , and polycarb. I know I'll be using light tactiles on t...
