Re: Ground problems with handwired boards?
I have tried a serial to usb converter, at 3v the LED lights and when the trackball moves the recieve light on the converter blinks but not the transmit. do you have a link to that pdf? Here's what I had bookmarked: https://www.fbperipherals.com/k34 - says the options are quadrature or PS2 https://...

Re: [SG] WTB A Filco Skeleton(FKB-97S) or Macally MK96
Fair enough, I didn't realize the MK96 had a transparent version. Say $30USD + actual shipping for the board and a black s-video cable? And $10 to put together a promicro ADB-USB adapter if you need one. Canada Post says ~$23 USD for shipping to Singapore if it's under the small packet weight of 2kg...

Re: Ground problems with handwired boards?
Thanks everyone for the helpful replies :) I'll have to make sure the shield ground isn't connected somewhere unexpected and otherwise investigate the usb side. I still have the carcass of that first board; I should double check that its behaviour matches my memory. Shielding ground is connected to ...

Ground problems with handwired boards?
I've just done my third handwire build. It's a tkl with a Postage Board controller (and SKCM White). The first board I did -- also a tkl, with a Teensy 2.0 controller running TMK -- would fail to initialize. Windows would report the "usb device malfunctioned". I figured the firmware was okay because...

I really like the layout and keycaps. Would like to purchase one to use as a daily driver. Thanks! Are you still looking? I have an MK96 with ISO-style return and AK-CN2 clicky alps clone switches (https://deskthority.net/wiki/Hua-Jie_AK_series): https://i.imgur.com/qZOG4nx.jpg It's in good shape, ...

Thanks for the help and suggestions. The reason I'm adding extra LEDS is because the original case has windows for them (will add the message LED too, any way I can get this working in QMK?) Re: Looking for IBM Model M2 capacitor part numbers
Here's what the caps on my M2 controller look like (I don't know if there were different revisions of this controller): https://i.imgur.com/S8PCIv4.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Lq8fYXr.jpg C1 (16V 47μF) is about 6mm across and C3 (50V 2.2μF) is about 4mm. However, as you can see in the picture, the sticker which covers the middle screw is not broken(before my disassembly). I wonder if this is a genuine sticker... Sliders/springs could h...

Run a copy of Keyboard Firmware Builder locally
The other day I was getting an error trying to download .hex files from https://kbfirmware.com (it's fine now). I'd been meaning to set up a copy on my computer, because I want to try some changes to the default wiring method. The original source https://github.com/ruiqimao/qmkbuilder is easy enough...

Yep, broken hammer, it was the part that was holding the spring that broke off. But c'mon guys, IBM cut to many corners with the M2 keyboard. Maybe a nice keyboard to collect, but not for regular use. I used one for years before I got my Omnikey. A bit fragile, yes, but fine to type on imo

I tried some google searches, and for a couple like "alps skcc" and "clare pendar keyboards" the dt wiki was still the first result. I did it in incognito mode, but google's tracking could still be having an effect. On DuckDuckGo, no dice, even with a string like "alps skcc deskthority wiki" :( I no...

What also surprised me is that I couldn't really notice much difference between it ("it" being a 2004 vintage SSK) and my Model F, a 1984 XT. Maybe I'm too much of a pleb to appreciate the finer points, or maybe more extended usage would reveal the differences; or maybe they're just not that differ...

Re: Taking keyboard case to car bodyshop to have it painted
So one of the companies said they'd do it for £40 and it should take 10 minutes when they "get a moment". The other one said I'd have to prep the plastic first, then I'd be looking at around £20-£30. Is the first one just hoping to take my money and do a quick coat of paint that won't last? Need so...

I don't have an HHKB, but on Poker style 60% board with hhkb bindings I found holding Fn to access the arrow keys/pgup/pgdn was quite hard on my right hand over time. The true HHKB layout where Fn is beside RShift is probably less straining, but it's something to think about. If I ever buy a Topre b...

Then you link to that GUI that creates firmware files for the converter without using having to install a build environment! http://www.tmk-kbd.com/tmk_keyboard/editor/unimap/?ps2_usb_rev1 there are different urls for different converters, context and flashing instructions at https://geekhack.org/i...

So it looks like I'm going to have to scurry off and find out what a Poker is! And steal myself an HHKB. TL;DR I'm after 1 x SKCC Lock or locking lug 1x SKCC Switch 1x 4P4C Port I don't think you can open these switches without desoldering them. You'll have a 4P4C connector to solder anyway; might as well get the switch out then too. SKCC switch: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Alps-SKCC-Cream-Tall-Keyswitch-...

Does this mean that I would need to build some sort of driver if I wanted to hook up a buzzer (in lieu of a solenoid)? At 4mA, would I be basically be asking it to power a blender?
