The blue Alps integrated domes are less mushy than the white ones.

SMD pats are easy enough if you have a good temperature-controlled soldering station and use leaded solder.
Amtech 60/40 is my favorite.

Allthough I still like the extra robustness through hole connectors provide. Which is why I used a through-hole connector on the customized Alps64 I modded.

I was lucky to get some super-early Blue Alps for my project, they are so old that the contacts are epoxied into the bottom shell.

Everything metal in the keyboard should be grounded.

I don't want to be conned into buying rubber domes so...
