Re: Great/Interesting Finds

I had a keyboard that looked exactly like this which had SKCM blues.

But could be pine whites if manufactured at a later date.

Re: Longterm Daily Drivers

I'm with you on that, years have passed by and I have sold off a large chunk of my collection but I will almost certainly hold on to my Unsaver for as long as I live. I have a new F77 too and though find it superior in some respects (mainly in the metal enclosure), I still vastly prefer the Unsaver...

Re: Longterm Daily Drivers

Always returning to my regular M SSK. That with the F mechanism would be the perfect keyboard for me. It's funny I actually have an FSSK now, but I don't use it much as I have my Unsaver and for some reason some of the keys feel inconsistent. It does feel like an F though, so maybe I would use it m...

Re: $400 for buckling springs: do you get the F77 Repro or the F122 original? Here's what I think.

Rattly? Not my OG Kishsaver ! He's a mental wee tank. All my IBMs are vintage so I can't talk for the new ones, but of my AT, XT and Kishsaver: the 4704 is the most solid of the lot in sharp key-feel as well as solid slab zinc case. It's the absolute apex buckling spring keyboard, far as I'm concer...

Re: Wikipedia Model F article shows modded F AT?

While we're editing, lets put a note that they are worth $75 USD for our eBay seller friends to read. Grey IBM keyboards are typically worth less than white examples because the cases have discolored from extended use in poorly ventilated factories and industrial centers. SSKs are less desireable t...

Excellent writeup, you have definitely done your research. F122 was my first mech keyboard and I still use it. You can't beat it's look, and the left function cluster is very clutch. Throw an ANSI layout and a floss mod in there, and it's damn near perfect. I don't have an F77, but I am excited to g...

I disagree as well, model F and model M difference is night and day. Model F is crisper and smoother. It's better than an M in every way. In fact I never use model M's for this reason.

I heard such model has gone so far like 5k on ebay? Jesus. Well there was no actual sold listing proof, so I wouldn't consider it accurate info. The one in your pic is missing the IBM badge: ) Yeah I know, pic there is just to get the general idea. the one I'm looking for has the badge of course :)

Secondly, the acquisition was to protect the integrity of the wiki. Throughout my career I have been involved in open source communities, in some I p...

Re: Bad blood with vintage computing community? Preposterous!

Like vespene said, vintage keyboards are in a rare position of still being useful with modern systems. The same can't be said for drives, mice, monitors, and other peripherals. Probably the most frustrating part for the vintage computer folks is that if they have a 5251 terminal system w/o the keybo...

Photos of what the 3 LEDs would look like on an 84-key SSK. Pictured are 5mm LEDs from a vintage 1390131 model M. Certainly 3mm or 1.8mm LEDs could be used to fit the plastic case mounting constraints. Thanks for the excellent visual aid! I would argue however that this is not a hard problem to sol...

Same. There's natural symmetry in putting them above the 3 keys wide "navigation sixpack", instead of over the last group of 4 function keys. They look a bit daft pulled in like they are.
I couldn't agree more. Also don't know why they didn't make this like ten years ago.

If you are running a business(selling or refurbing) say yeah I am...
