I'd recommend the keyboard from the IBM 5140 convertible computer. The keyboard is small and lightweight with a very workable layout. The keycaps might not be "cool", but they are dye-sub PBT. The switches are great -- SKCM brown Alps. There have been posts of successful conversions of this keyboar...

Trying to find my ultimate project keyboard. Help needed

So I am looking to compile this thread so that I will find my ultimate and possibly final project keyboard for conversion. All these PC boards are kind of boring now, and the ones with good/I don't already have switches are too expensive for me. Criteria: - Chance of finding it for an ok price (EU) ...

I am also voting the DMA capsense project for 'Best Project' because he's bringing Beamsprings and terminal Model Fs back to the future. (sidenote, the Topre thing is cool too, but I don't care about Topre, already too expensive)

Micrion Corp Battleship 'Control Unit' Model M discovered, possibly

Noobamen saw this on eBay, and it caught our attention, because its keyboard seems to be a Model M! :) Check it out! https://i.imgur.com/z3g7HP8.jpg https://i.imgur.com/tiTg7RT.jpg https://i.imgur.com/3ZLdWG4.jpg If your pockets are deep enough... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Micrion-Corp-100-12241-Rev-...

The foam in the 'foam and foil' has disintegrated, so the foil doesn't make contact with the pads anymore. You can make new ones yourself (https://deskthority.net/workshop-f7/1983-general-radio-genrad-lm2-vintage-tall-keytronic-t19531.html) or buy pre-made ones (https://texelec.com/product/foam-capa...

Because there is no Hall Effect firmware out there. Ace Pad Tech, the makers of the only current HE boards out there, refused to give out the firmware to XMIT.

Unfortunately, having Hall Effect in a vintage keyboard is a blessing and a big curse. They are one of the best switches ever made, but you cannot use them!

BTW no, you will probably not find somebody who has converted this board.

I choose the soldier, because
- black coiled cable
- IBM industrial look
- wacky layout, but usable with programming
- linear switches so commando units remain silent for the enemy.
My second pick is the unknown, because he's a poor underdog :)

Happy Birthday/1 year on Deskthority to me

Snacksthecat reminded me that today is my Deskthority Birthday (same as my real life birthday) :) What has changed? I'm not into keyboards as much as I used to be. I have almost everything I need keyboard wise. This feeling has been haunting me a bit, because I have a feeling that I must never lose ...
